Man...I grew up going to MS. The doors should have never closed. I just shake my head everytime I drive by wondering if they will ever build a high rise. Instead I see an empty parking lot.
I'm glad to see them bringing it back. |

This was posted on another forum. It's pics of the refurbished seats for the ferris wheel.

Great News
I think this is awesome. Like so many people, I was sad and upset when this amusement park shut the doors. I am 44 yrs old and from the time I was 16, I loved going. Even when I became older and no longer interested in the things I used to enjoy there, I still enjoyed it a lot in a new way. I always felt that the amusement park was the "staple" of Panama City Beach. Each year I drive by it, I am sickened at the site and each time I have to stop myself from going to wal-mart and buying a weed eater and doing some work there. It is an eyesore, and even more of an eyesore for those who remember what once sat there. I am glad that someone is doing something at pier park and I am thrilled at how pier park has come along. I just wish it was closer to edgewater. Thanks to those involved in doing this.

Here's a little more info (we're trying to get the inside scoop on what rides will be included, but they're being very tight-lipped about it for now)

This quote is so true:
Generations of families will once again share in the same childhood memories and our kids and grand kids will be able to ride the same rides we once rode as kids!

I must admit I am not the least bit familiar with the Miracle Strip but I certainly can appreciate the enthusiasm everyone seems to have. Can anyone perhaps direct me to a site that may further explain the historical significance of this. As time goes along and we are more able to spend time there I want to be able to explain such things to my little one. Thanks everyone!

I'm guessing that you started visiting PCB after 2005 since you aren't familiar with Miracle Strip. It was an amusement park located on Front Beach Rd across from the beach.

Here are a couple more links...the first is a bit of history about Miracle Strip, the second is a link to a "Miracle Strip" search on Flickr. There are a bunch of great photos from the last forty years or so of Miracle Strip.

I admit this park is not like Six Flags or any mega park. So, I won't compare rides. But when you are a child, it was just AWESOME and nothing could get better! I'm talking about spending all day on the beach, go out to eat and hit Miracle Strip. Those were fun days and I remember them like it was yesterday. I have kids of my own and we go down about 2 times a year. I want them to have lasting memories of PCB like I did. We make it a point to go to Pineapple Willy's (they love the pier), Alvin's Magic Mountain Mall, Pier Park, Shipwreck Island, Dippin Dots, go carts and mini golf every time. I just wish Miracle Strip is on that list. Oh...I will let them figure out the clubs on their own. My wife and I grin at each other when we drive by Sharky's and the kids start screaming "Shark!". Or, when we go past La Vela and we all shout "Party with Thousands!" Sorry. I'm rambling. I just got excited going down memory lane. |

Thanks everyone.
Thanks for all the information folks. We started coming to PCB on a regular basis in 2002 but seldom ventured far from the beach and hotel. This year we will introduce my daughter to the Miracle Strip and begin another family tradition. Looking forward to checking it out.
