PCB oil

My family and I are supposed to stay at PCB July 24 - 31. Has the oil reached this location yet? I keep getting conflicting reports? We're unsure of keeping our reservation and need a backup plan.
Thanks

We've had some tarballs wash up, but nothing major. The tarballs are quickly cleaned up and could be here one day, gone the next.

Just depends on the currents, winds, etc. I would say that so far, the oil hasn't negatively impacted anyone's vacation in PCB yet... and that may continue unless the heavy stuff washes in. Nobody really knows when that will be, how long it will last or how long it will take to clean it up.

I wouldn't cancel plans to visit PCB just yet. But make sure you have a plan B and your hotel will refund your money (almost all in PCB right now are offering full refunds if the oil affects your stay)

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Are the beaches closed? I heard that they were and I wanted to find out for sure.

My sister-in-law said a friend of her's was down there and texted her that it was closed. I think she may have meant Pensacola and not PCB. I'm investigating now.

No oil. It was due to double red flags.

Wondering how busy PCB was today with the start of the 4th of July weekend under way. Saw a video on MSN from Pensacola Beach about the lack of tourists being at the beach, that due to the oil they decided to stay away from the beach. And what was more shocking was the different restaurants they showed that would normally be packed but the dining rooms were empty. Sure bad for all the businesses that rely on the tourist dollars. Think the video said business was down 80%. So sad. Afraid it will end up happening at PC Beach. We like to go out on the waverunner tours, I like to hit all the beach stores like Alvins Island and Shipwreck LTD. If tourism is down wonder if this will force normally busy stores like the beach stores to close down? Hope not.

Vacationed July 17-24...

We vacationed July 17-24, staying at Edgewater. The place was actually busier than the past two years, perhaps due to visitors staying farther east to avoid the oil.

We snorkeled at St. Andrews State Park and despite the tarballs that showed up last month, we didn't find any evidence of the spill - not a single speck.

Here is this year's snorkeling video at the jetties --->YouTube - "Snorkeling the Jetties 2010" St. Andrews State Park Panama City Beach, Florida
