Boardwalk Beach Resort to Host Pro MMA Event
What do you guys think, is this something you'd be interested in seeing more of in PCB?
From the News Herald: Amateur mixed martial arts made its debut in the Panhandle in August. On Saturday, it’s the professionals’ turn. The Brawl at the Beach takes place on Saturday at the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Nine professional MMA fights are on the card, which includes a main event featuring former Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor Luigi Fioravanti. http://www.newsherald.com/sports/sat...ity-event.html |

MMA doesn't have the best reputation, but I admit I don't know much about MMA. I say it's at least worth a shot... to see if these events work well in PCB.

The article says the area around the octagonal cage can seat 4,500 people. I'd be curious to see what percentage of that is filled on Saturday.

Looks like about 400 people showed up according to this article...that's not a bad crowd, really, for a first-of-its-kind event in PCB.
I wonder how many of those were free tickets, though. They were giving them away like crazy on the radio last week. Here are the fight results if you're interested! http://www.waltonsun.com/sports/beac...ighlights.html |

The MMA thing has really been blowing up here in Louisville over the last couple years. There have been new gyms popping up everywere, and lots of local events/fights. MMA seems to be very popular now and shows no sign of going anywere anytime soon.
I think it could be good for PCB. |
