331 or 79?
Which Highway is better to take coming from the west? Looking at a map it seems 331 would be quicker.. But I hear 79 is the way but it looks like 79 passes through a larger number of small towns.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that you are taking I-10 coming from LA. I have never taken 331 coming from Alabama...I always go 231 because it has a fewer number of small towns, but you won't be coming through Alabama, so I'm not really sure. I believe you have to hit Destin if you go 331 and if you are coming in on a Saturday then I bet once you get on 98 then it will be a lot of traffic. That's also another reason I take 231 because it comes out closer to PCB. I would probably take 79, but I'm not too familar with that road, so maybe some PCB locals can help you out. Might even want to check about taking 231...I'm not sure how far 231 and 331 are apart. Hopefully that will help a little.

I take 331 coming from your way.... been doing it for years. Just hit old exit 14 off 10 and follow the 331 signs to 98 head left and you done it... Party On

331 or 79
331 is good. Possible alternate is to take 331 to 20 East, and then to 79 South. Not sure it will save you anytime.
My trip planner always has me on Hwy 98 all the way from P'cola, It all depends on traffic on 98 (parts are still two lane and depending on time of day traffic is a pain) and how fast you are willing to go on I-10. I've done both plenty of times and actually found very little time difference. And that was doing 80-85 on I-10. |
