Well
I know the systems noaa runs their forcasts on and they have 6 systems in the supercomputer top 500 list. Thats pretty good. I dont believe the weather channel has anything on a terascale level which always makes me trust noaa a little more. Just to show how hard it is to predict the weather over 80% of the worlds supercomputers are used to predict the weather! I work on the Department of Defense's largest systems and I would say most the computing power is used for just that.. We just have better technology than the other guys ;) The Department of Energy gets to do the fun stuff though.. They get to simulate nuclear holocost. Sorry for the techno jargon but if you want an expert opinion screw the weather.com stuff..
