how strict is the boardwalk on wristbands, i have a friend that is supposed to go with us but we will have 9 and the room only holds 8, is there a way to get him in??

They are not strict at all. The only time you *might* get asked is walking around late at night if you are making a disturbance. Even then, just leave and come back you can access all the rooms from the beach or parking lot.

When we checked in we were able to trick the front desk and get an extra wristband, so try yer luck with that.

They aren't strict, but we had 7 guys in our group and the room only allowed 6. What we did was accidently lost one of the bands and asked for another one. Gave the "lost one" to the extra guy and we were set. You do have to pay 10 bucks for a lost one though. Security does do rounds around the hotel. Only asked a couple times if I had a band or not and it was later in the evening.
