3/12/04 ... Clubs/Drinking question

I and a few others from Northern Illinois should be down there from the 12th to the 19th. Anyone think that getting into clubs and/or drinking will be a problem for a few 19-20 year olds? Pretty sure the bar age in Florida is 18 or 19 but haven't had time to check into it. Thanks.

I've also been considering a few different hotels...mostly Chateau and the Holiday Inn. Any suggestions? I realize I can probably get a room at the Chateau for less money, but is the location or quality of the Holiday Inn worth the extra money? Thanks again.

You can get into almost all the clubs at 18.... but they are VERY strict about underage drinking. Probably not worth the risk...

Chateau has a much more friendly security team. Enough said.

Good luck!

when you say strict, how exactly so? Is it more cops patrolling the beaches and checking people for underage drinking? Do they ID really hard at the clubs? How hard is it realistically for someone under 21 to get drinks once they are inside the bar anyway.

Cops do patrol the Beach... so drink at your own risk.
All clubs ID very hard... esp during Spring Break.
If you're under 21 you will have a huge black "NO" or "X" on your hand in the clubs. If a bouncer sees you with a drink, you'll get thrown out or maybe handed over to authorities.

Click the Search link at the top of this page and search for Underage Drinking or Fake IDs. THere have been a TON of posts about it and should have some useful info for you.

The only major problem about staying at the Chateau is the distance from the action. While the Holiday Inn isn't next to the super clubs, it holds it's own against the super clubs for a party scene during the day. If I where you I'd get as close to the super clubs or the Holiday Inn as possible. The beach parties during the day are where you meet people. Those two spots are the most crowded during the day.

True. They both have ups and downs. But, good luck getting any of those people you meet back to your room at the HI.

Chateau is not quite at the epicenter of the action, but you've got Harpoon Harry's, Latitude's, Days Inn, Ramada, Islander and Hooters nearby.

Another option is the HoJo at Boardwalk. Next to the clubs AND a relaxed security staff.

Hey im telling ya if you plan on having the best time on springbreak and hooking up with girls you have to stay at the Boardwalk. It may cost a little bit more but it will be worth it. Like everyone has said they have the best security, no one else will let u bring guests back like they do. And im from Illinois also so ill see ya down there.

First off, the Chateau has a much better location than the Holiday Inn. No, the Chateau is not within walking distance of LaVela or Spinnaker's but neither is the Holiday Inn. The Chateau is right next to Harpoon Harry's and Latitudes. What's really nice is they both allow free re-entry so you can hop back and forth between the two when you want to. It's good for people under 21 'cause your room is literally a 30 second jog away. This way when your buzz wears off, you can run back to your room for shots or something and be back to the club in no time. The security at the Chateau is much more laid back than the Holiday Inn. No one will approach you at the Chateau and check IDs or anything. They understand it's spring break and people are gonna drink whether they are supposed to or not. They stay out of your business. Plus you can bring anyone back to your hotel that you want. No one checks wristbands or anything. At the Holiday Inn they are very strict on that. I've stayed at both places and I had much more fun at the Chateau. The Boardwalk is a good hotel too 'cause it's next to LaVela and Spinnaker's. The only problem is those clubs don't allow free re-entry so you can't go back to your room and drink or anything. For people under 21, I definitely recommend the Chateau.

As for drinking at the club, it's a no go. All the clubs have tons of security, and they will catch if you are drinking. If they do catch you, they will kick you out immediately. I learned that the hard way many times. I've never actually seen anyone arrested for drinking at the clubs. I have seen people arrested for drinking by the road though. There are cops all over the strip and they will haul you away if they see you drinking near the road regardless of your age.

Don't try using a fake ID. It won't work. The doormen at the clubs can spot them a mile away. Everyone I have ever seen use one has lost it the first time they used it. I don't advise you to do this, but you are much better off using someone else's valid ID. I used my buddy's one year, who looks nothing like me, and it worked everytime. Usually they pay more attention to whether or not the ID is legit, than to what the person looks like. Just don't get mad at me if it doesn't work.

I guess one more tip for first time spring breakers is get your goods at the Walmart. That's where the prices are the cheapest and that's where everyone goes. It's actually a good time 'cause on arrival day the place is packed with spring breakers. It's a good place to meet people right off the get go.

Any more questions, let me know. I've been to PCB four times, so I like to think I know what I'm talking about.

Later,

STEVE-O

I went to PCB last year and from what I remember was they carded super hard at the door. In fact most every door person I came in contact with was pretty much an ***. I Know Spinnakers and some of the other places don't let minors in for free after a certain time. I'm staying at the summit, but if I wasn't staying there I'd prolly stay at the Chateau. Spinnaker/La Vela and Harpoon Harrys is pretty much were 75% of the people are going to be so if you get a hotel by one of those that is the best thing to do. It is illegal to drink on the strip but not on the beach which is about a 25 second walk. What we did a lot last year was go to the club get stamped then go sit on the beach with an 18 pack and down it. I agree walmart is a good place to get stuff.

The Holiday Inn is really hard to get people into if they arent staying there... we had a few problems with that last year because we had friends staying there... it doesnt sound like that big of a deal.. but when you meet people and they away it can really screw things up...

when it comes to underage drinking.. just be smart.. to many people go down there and lose their common sense.. you WILL have a good time and people under age can drink... just think first...
