Well I just got back to St.Louis from Panama City Beach yesterday. I loved it so much, that I am considering moving down there. What is Gulf Coast Community College like? It looked pretty nice from what I saw. Is there a good apartment selection in the area, or one complex that most of the students live at? How expensive are the apartments to live in?

It's not too bad. I think the enrollment is about 7 or 8,000, but a lot is like older folks too not college age. Although i say in my classes its about 90% 18-29. Theres not really one place that everyone lives, but there are a fair number of apts on the college side of the bridge. You can also rent a house out at the beach, sometimes that's cheaperthat you'd think. But yeh it's not so bad, close to the beach :) |

id consider going to FSU- its bout 1.5 hours from PCB and its an actual college (one of the top party schools). Plus Tally is more of a city than PC (even tho neither are too much of a city)

yeah, i agree, specially if you already have some college... after 2 years gccc has close to nothin to offer you. West Florida is also a nice school, about the same distance but the opposite way. That's where i'll be transferring in the fall.
*edit* sorry just saw your second post, i'm kinda drunk, so, yeah. I'm not really sure i've just talked to a lot of ppl who say you cna do that. Sorry dude |

Having attended GCCC and FSU, I'd say it depends on what you're looking for. GCCC is an excellent school academically, and they've got great facilities and an awesome staff. But you won't find a huge party scene at GCCC (or PCB for that matter, with exception to Spring Break). It's a little more laid back. Don't get me wrong, you'll find plenty of stuff to do on most weekends, but it's nothing like a big university. The same can be said for the small FSU branch here in PCB. The student community is very small and most students are longtime locals or from nearby.
FSU (in Tallahassee), on the other hand, is like any other big university... with Sorority and Frat parties, dozens of happening bars on any given night, many cultures and communities for students, apartment complexes and neighborhoods devoted entirely to students (with non-stop parties all the time), major sporting events (FSU football is INSANE!), and a wide spectrum of students from all over the country. The campus is awesome and the girl to guy ratio is close to even... or maybe even a little better. And soooo many of the girls are gorgeous! But, I have to admit, if I had started off at FSU, I would never have graduated. GCCC helped keep me grounded and put me in sight of a diploma. It made it a little easier to control my partying at FSU. (well..... somewhat controlled )Last edited by swn5363; March-21st,2005 at 10:05 PM. |

Excellent information, everyone! Thanks to your damn good information, I have nothing to offer. Listen to these guys!
By the way swn, ever been to the frogpond apartments? I have 3 friends with a place over there and when I'm not working, I spend the weekend over there. Nonstop parties and awesome time! If you've been there do any other apartment complexes compare? |

Frog pond? Turtle Lake?
Yeah, I've had friends that lived there. There were always a few students living there since it's so close to GCCC. Seemed like there were quite a few families there, too... which made it hard to party. They always had noise and partying complaints from neighbors so they ended up moving to a house on the beach. Eagle's Landing and The Reserve usually have a good amount of students, but again, not much partying. AT least not any WILD parties. Last edited by swn5363; March-21st,2005 at 10:56 PM. |

HAhah! Well in that case, no I haven't been. But it seemed like there were non-stop parties at every apartment complex within a 5 mile radius of the campus in Tally. Every night. All year long (except summer - it was a ghost town in summer). FSU definitely deserves its ranking among the best party schools. Can't tell you how many times I did the Tennessee Waltz. AJs, Floyds, Poor Pauls, Bullwinkles..... Cauhaus, Late Night Library, Downtown... and the neighborhood parties.
I lived a block from the stadium on Aaron Street off Pensacola Hwy. Every house for a mile in any direction was full of students and parties. Publix was like a club. Buffalo's and Po Boys was stumbling distance. Jim and Milt's BBQ. Bagel Bagel. I miss it. It really was great times. |
