the evangelicals
is it just me or does it not seem that people are in the mood for conversion on spring break. if they hung around a rehab, jail, or homeless shelter i can see them having great success rates. but spring break? has anyone seen or encountered anyone actually like converted by these street preachers? I'm a christian myself, but i think they are really not going about it the right way. Like, just stopping people on the street while they're drunk...

I'll do my best to contain myself when it comes to these people since my contempt for them is palpable.
Here's the thing... obviously they don't get it. If they did they wouldn't just be screaming at people through mega phones telling them they are sinning when they are doing nothing more (to thier knowledge) than walking down the street. I simply ignore them because they haven't the slightest idea about religion. They think they do, but they are selectively religious, they take the parts that work for thier argument and yell them at you, but meanwhile they are committing just as many sins, but obviously thiers aren't as bad as yours... *edited to note that "sin" is a term that is relative to your beliefs* but enough of that.... 15 days!!!!!!!!WOOOOOOOOOOO! |

I have to say down in PCB I have never had any of them yell at me. I may not support their religious views however, they have in fact been some of the nicest, although perhaps most naive, people I have met. Guys, this is a great instance to remember "The Spring Break Oath." Absolutely nothing would be gained by belittling these people. If they're rude to you smile, shrug it off and go drink a beer and pick up some hot chicks. Remember, they're doing what they think is a good thing.

First Year Experience
Actually had a conversation with members of some christian group on my first year down there. I was already buzzed and I didn't want to talk about religion because I feel that religious fanatics can be the most intolerant people. Ironically enough what I thought would be a disaster ended up being one of the best stories of my life. My good friend Nick is a devout catholic. Well he was so drunk cause I got him loaded before we got on the beach. Believe me nothing is better than hearing a drunk guy talk about religion to a bunch of young do right christians. He just went on about random things from the bible and chopped it up with the two for a good while. Then the best drunk quote I've heard to date came out of his mouth,"God is so great. You know that he created things in his image, but sometimes it confuses me. Like I understand how he created man in his image but how to you explain other things created in his image like the PLATYPUS."

Personally, not intending to insult anyone's religious beliefs, I thnk they are hilarious because I don't understand why they choose Spring Break either.
Last year, two of them walked me back home to my hotel from La Vela because I got "lost" from my friends and they REFUSED to let me walk home by myself. When they started talking about religion, I would change the subject everytime. It's so funny looking back on it because I was so drunk, and they were actually trying to hold a "serious" conversation. |

My first Spring Break in PCB was peek week, March2001 at people. One of them had a break down , because no one was listening and a couple girls decided to flash them with "I love sin" written across their chest!!! At which point he threw his bible at the guys laughing at him and started to explain why they were all going to Hell and that he would piss on them from Heaven!!! Was kind of funny, but at the same time completely wrong…..However funny took over for the night since I was kind off hammered…….. Last year was not that bad…… The only thing I saw them do was offer some free Pancakes at an old Pancake house !!!!! I guess they finally figured out that yelling at teens is not going to turn them to the word of god……. Hope I did not offend anyone with this post.Joe |
