Well, first of all, let me apologize because, ultimately... this was our fault.

Someone just sent me instructions on how our software can be cheated when polls are open for guest voting. I tested it and it's true. Shame on us for not realizing this vulnerability and preventing it.

We can see exactly who voted, including guests (logged by IP)... so...

In this situation, without accusing anyone of cheating... and realizing that our polls were vulnerable when open to guests... I think the only fair way to handle this is to disqualify guest votes for everyone.

We are keeping the votes placed by registered members... there's no way to cheat that part of the system.

The poll is now open only to registered members.

Again, I humbly apologize... we should have known about this vulnerability.

If anyone has objections to this decision, send me a PM... we'll take a look, consider the objection, and respond.

Also, I think in light of this discovery, we should extend the voting dates of the contest... maybe to the end of the month. However, that would mean that winners would have to pick up their prizes from our office rather than us mailing the prizes to you.

Just like EVERY OTHER political process, this has gotten rigged and turned into yet another popularity contest.

it shoulda been a combination of TRUE tripsmarter members that ACTUALLY post regularly and the Admins' votes. that woulda been more realistic

Yea this was prolly the best thing to do then, only make it open to registered members.....So did that many ppl actually log in and vote for him, or were a majority all from the same IP address...I was wondering if you could just log in as a guest and vote multiple times

It prevented guests from voting more than once... but, there was a way around that if you knew what you were doing.

Spoof your ip address and clear cookies...would have worked and wouldn't have been too hard.
