Some local businesses say they didn't get the advertising they paid for on the MTV-U website, which is the main focus of this year's spring break marketing efforts.

In the fall, Tourist Development Council members invested $150,000 to promote and bring MTV-U to Panama City Beach. Part of the proposal included package deals for resorts that would post banners on the website with direct links to their home pages.

But MTV-U's partnership with studentcity.com doesn't allow direct links to be posted, something the local businesses were not aware of when the deal was made.

Lee Ann Leonard with By the Sea Resorts said, "It wasn't clearly outlined, the different levels of packages, the different levels of investments of what you were getting and that lead to some upset partners. We paid $12, 500 for our partnership, but felt like some of the partners that paid much less than that got just as much benefit."

TDC members admit they were behind in getting everything set up for the website, but despite problems, they're still predicting one of the strongest spring breaks ever.

Shame on the TDC's marketing firm that set up the deal...

if only there was some less expensive, more effective way of getting their message out directly to the people that were looking to book their hotels for spring break......maybe even keeping the money circulating in their own local economy.... if only there was some way to reach people as they are making their plans with each other....

Yeah, too bad there's not a great Spring Break website like that around...
