Effects of economy on SB '09?
Hey all, sorry I've been MIA for so long! I've started my new job that averages around 60 hours a week to start out, so it hasn't left too much time for much else (including regular trips to the TripSmarter boards
). But my hours should become more manageable as I get comfortable with the job, so I'll be back on here soon enough...I miss these boards!Anyways, I've already requested March March 7-14 off, so I'll definitely be returning to PCB again this year ![]() In the meantime, I've been thinking...with the stock market (and maybe the economy) crashing the way they are, how do you think Spring Break '09 will be affected? I'm thinking it'll make PCB even more popular this year...kids' parents will be less willing to pay for some fancy trip to Cancun/Cabo/Acapulco, so all the students will just scrounge together their money to do the much cheaper (and in my opinion, better) option--PCB. What do you think? |

Great idea for a poll Dave!
And welcome back! Looks like we've already got a good crew from the Tripsmarter forums planning to return for SB09. I can definitely say this is the first year that we've actually had ongoing Spring Break dialogue all year. Usually it dies down in the summer and doesn't pick back up til Oct-Nov... but this year has been different. That's a strong sign IMHO. I think PCB will be the place to be this year..... and we're looking forward to seeing all you crazy forum members again! |

I donno who voted for spring break is gonna be slow everywhere but personally I think thats crazy. College kids dont give a **** about the economy. Most of them are already broke. They wanna go on spring break they are gonna go on spring break

The way gas prices are might put a damper on some peoples plans, but not mine. It really could end up being either way, but as long as I have the beach and some cold beer, I'll be happy!

Gas is going to kill you either way, either by flying or driving, that is just obvious. Spring Break will be just fine this year, and like I said, by all accounts so far, things are shaping up to be JUST FINE. Although, mtv is looking at taking their "act" international" for this year. However, MTV doesn't make the spring break, my best trips have been where mtv did NOT go! Regardless PCB will be non stop partying this year, you can count on it!

Gas prices are going down as we speak. It is already under $3 where I live in south Georgia. I don't think gas will be a problem.

Yea that would be nice if the actually stayed this low until spring break..Pretty sure they are still more expensive down in the south...We have $2.39 here in Iowa now

i think the domestic option will be the choice of many who have tighter budgets this year. which is good for 2 reasons.
#1 it makes PCB the best place to be #2 it pumps money into our local economys |

Yeah I've been wondering this too. But I think it will be fine. PCB is not that expensive outside housing and hotel. Plus as someone said above, college students are broke already! So nothing changes for them.

I don't think a hurricane would stop spring breakers from showing up...let alone a slumping economy :)

Nobody wants to go home during SB, so students are def gonna be looking for cheaper destinations if their tighter on their wallets... which will lead them to PCB!!!

I agree...most college kids are already broke. So this whole concept of a "crappy economy" doesn't mean a whole lot to them. They will only be affected if mom and dad are paying for their trip. Otherwise, they'll all pile up in a car...or pile 8 people in a 2 bed hotel room and still come. I don't think it's going to slow it down.
I DO hope that clubs such as La Vela be understanding and not try to gash people for $40 at the door as they have in the past. |
