*ahem*....as a black guy...I think I might be able to speak on this one a little bit.

In my years of clubbing, I've noticed that "dress codes" are more so focused towards the trends of the "urban" section of the population. For example...hat's cocked to the side...baggy jeans...jerseys. In some cases...some brand names are not allowed in some clubs...eg...Sean John...Timbaland...etc. All reasons I've been denied access to clubs.

A few years ago...a few rappers started a trend to start wearing white t-shirts, because they were something that everyone could afford. Not everyone could afford the $300 throw-back jerseys...so there was a bit of a movement to make white t-shirts popular. Shortly there after...clubs started implementing the "no white tee" policy. Hell...I've even been denied access for wearing a baby-blue t shirt because the bouncer thought it was white...even though the tag on the collar said "blue".

In most cases...dress codes are "inforced" to keep a particular group of people out. In a lot of cases...it's geared to keep black guys out.

Yeah yeah...I know I know...people will dispute me...but as a black guy...I've seen it...and lived it many times.

I don't like playing the race card...but it is what it is.

Baggy clothes make it easier to conceal a weapon. It's also a fact that a majority of the gang members wear baggy clothes. Wear their hats sideways etc. It's just the way it is. Of course not everyone who wears a baggy pair of jeans is going to shoot up the club. But instead of risking a shooting, fight etc. Its just easier to eliminate the look all together.

Black, White, Asian, Mexican.. The rule goes for anybody who wears the "urban" look.

Oh...ok. :)

Because I'm sure it's much easier to hide a weapon in a white tee...as opposed to a gray tee. :)

I understand. But I do think that most of the dress codes are conveniently targeted at a very specific group of people. I know we're not going to agree on this. I guess you have to be denied access more often than not...to understand.

Some of us have learned how to "dress the part" and "talk the talk" to "fit in". It's sad that it has to be that way...but it is what it is.

Yeah i think its pretty sad but I think this is prolly a prime example where you can play the race card easily. I remember a few years back when the white t shirts were popular....I think someone even rapped about his icey white tee.....

White tee's were VERY popular with rock bands. Then the trend kind of switched...and along came the "dress code".

you telling me people could conceal guns under them lol

depends how its worn if its like 6xl and down to the knees it would be classed as thug but many people just wear tight tshirts now and thats what allot do or atleast do here. its silly that you can wear a hat shorts and flip flops atall if you cant wear a good fitting white tshirt as thats way more of an upscale look than looking like u walked in off beach lol

i understand where people are coming from its **** being told what to wear just to get in lol

I remember when tight shirts were in...then they went out for a while...and you would get made fun of for wearing a "smedium" shirt...and now they're back.

I used to wear a du-rag, braids, loose jeans, Black and white T's (5 years ago)... And After years of this ****, and getting denied over and over at clubs and thinking it was racism, i finally realized it was a GOOD thing they were doing this... My cousin's opened up a club 3-4 years ago, and as soon as they got rid of the dress code, bunch of thugs and lo-life's showed up and messed everything up. Not only did they tip poorly, there were fights every week, and people bringing in weapons...

If i ran a club, it would have the strictest dress code ever... Although not everyone that dresses thuggish is a thug... I agree that it shouldn't be allowed in a club. Too much knuckleheads out there... White, Mexican, Blacks its not the skin color, its the thug life mentality, their all the same... Fuc* em all.... I almost got shot last weekend, if there was a dress code, the dude would not of been in the club...

Full disclosure: I'm a white guy.

However, it's pretty obvious the rules against urban-wear are there to keep low-class, ghetto-acting guys out. They can be black or white (the "******" look), but I'd say it is more discriminatory against black people.

I have no problem with them trying to keep out low class people who are more likely to start fights, harass girls, or carry weapons. The problem is, these items of clothing are just the things that are popular with a lot of black guys. Doesn't mean they are thugs because they rock a white tee; it just means it is popular with those who wear urban and rap inspired fashion.

Imagine clubs having a dress code against graphic tees, Ed hardy shirts, and blow-out spiked hair cuts because it is what a lot of roided-out, fight-starting New Jersey *****s wear...(Actually, that may not be that bad of an idea, haha).
