Spring break officially began this week at Canadian schools, but even with less money the spring breakers are still coming.

If you search spring break 2009 one of the first links you'll find is tripsmarter.com’s list of college spring breaks with a link to spring break in Panama City Beach.

Beach businesses like hotels and nightclubs count on the spring breakers to bring in revenue to the beach.

Chris Pitts with Club LaVela said, "Spring break is a lifeline for all beach businesses. That's good six weeks of money coming in helps keep these businesses afloat for the 5, 6, 7, months especially coming off the off season. Everybody's pinching pennies nobody has got any money so it's the first big influx of money that helps keep these businesses operating for the rest of the year."

Lee Ann Leonard, GM of "By the Sea" Resort, said, "I don't know that By the Sea Resort would survive without spring break, that is our third largest revenue generating month. What we've found is that a lot of these kids come here for spring break and return with there families.”

But will less spring breakers make there way to the beach this year?

"We are seeing that we are going to be a little bit down this year. We're pacing about 15 percent down from last year, but that's not really a gloomy story altogether because last year was our second best spring break ever. Considering the economy we're still encouraged and still hope we can make up some ground."

The Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau says despite tough times college spring break numbers should be the nearly the same as last year.

College spring break runs through April.

Haveing extensivly looked around vrbo at lots of rooms its proving hard to find one with space in march at moment so i think numbers going to be good!
