Should I be driving or taking a taxi?

Obviously, there's going to be a ton of drinking so I don't want to drive....but I don't want to pay outrageous taxi prices. I'll be staying right on the beach on front beach road so I will just need a taxi to get to the club. Even during times when it's not spring break Front beach road has horrible traffic and I'm wondering...what's the cost of taxis like if I'm going 2-4 miles? How hard do they crack down on DUI's?

Most taxi companies will charge $15 minimum.

Cops will be every where (on Front Beach). I obviously don't condone drinking and driving...but if you're gonna drive, I would suggest mapping out the back roads. You won't have to sit in traffic...and there are fewer...to almost NO cops.

I personally would prefer to drive than to take a taxi.

Drive. Period. Been pulled over twice and always been let go (both times were for having wayyyy too many people in the car).

Take back beach or middle beach road instead of front beach and get ANYWHERE in about 5 minutes.

5 year veteran, always driven EVERYWHERE, never once taken a cab (although a few times I have let the christian van give me a free ride, i also enjoy their free pancake breakfast every morning).

There are shuttle buses that drive around the beach. I am not 100% of the fee's, but it's like 4 bucks a person (Think you need 3 people thou).

Cab can get expensive. But it's better to spend $20 bucks and grab a ride compared to getting yourself a DUI and spending hundreds on a fine. Or possible even killing someone and getting jail time.

Church vans give people free rides (Forget the number but you'll see them) You just have to deal with some preaching.

Or you can always fine a DD. I'm sure nobody wants to. But it's probably the best option.

And of course there is the old fashion way. Walk. 3 mile walk would be a hike thou.

so is that $15 minimum for the whole taxi? thats not too bad if you split it 4 ways or even better if they have a van and you split it like 6 ways. You say it can take a while but can't the taxi driver take the back roads too and make it quicker. Where we are staying is about 1 1/2 miles from the clubs so thats a short drive but is a pretty solid walk.

They have them in and out of La Vela all the time. Exactly where they go and how many stops I don't know. Just ask any bouncer to use their phone or have someone call a ride and most will.

I know personally I have no problem calling a cab or something for somebody if it means they don't drive.

Plus as you said the shuttle is a great way to meet new people.

I find it hard to believe they pulled anybody over and just let them go. Unless you are barely above the limit. And last year you were only 17?

You could not have been drunk... That or you got lucky and his shift was about to end.

Being good looking has it's advantages...but for some reason I don't think that them letting people go is the "norm". I've heard a TON of stories of people spending their spring break in jail.

ditto to what everyone has said about this...brains get you so far, but luck always runs out.
I can tell you from experience, a DUI is NO FUN and for that reason i will never ever do that **** again, drunk or not drunk...cab may be $15 but it definitley beats the $1,000 fine, lawyer fees, court costs, jail time etc etc etc...no fun at all and def not worth the risk.
if you got out of it even after a breath test, consider it lucky, but dont tempt it again..JMO
