Huge Music Festival during Spring Break voted down by PCB Council
A promoter from California-based Endless Summer proposed a massive music festival occuring over 2 weekends during Spring Break 2010.
The proposal included having the festival at Frank Brown park off Back Beach Road, features 60 performers and would draw a estimated 100,000 people. The promoter, Ted Absher, said his clients include MTV, BET, CMT and the Grammy Awards. But, city council members voted against the festival due to security concerns and a lack of resources to control the event. Full story in the News Herald: Massive music fest in PCB? I have to wonder about this whole thing...it smells fishy to me. Endless Summer, best I can tell, has never promoted an event of any kind (thanks Google!) and Ted Absher is a career-long "audience coordinator" and "seat-filler coordinator" for award shows (thanks again Google!).
Then, all of a sudden, he's booking and promoting huge festivals (100,000+ people) with the likes of PAUL MCCARTNEY as headliners? That lineup is almost unheard of as far as festivals go...even established ones with guaranteed attendance. I don't know...let's say you just started a promotion company and were looking for some legitimacy. Would drafting a proposal for a huge festival with 100,000 possible attendees and headliners like PAUL MCCARTNEY be a bad idea? Even if you knew the small town SB destination that's making an effort to move away from SB events was going to shoot you down? Wouldn't your name being associated with unattainable headliners and unattainable attendance figures be a good thing? </tin foil hat> |
