Trolling
We went on a 6 hour trolling trip 10/14.
We went on a 4 hour trolling trip 10/15. We caught king, spanish, and one 34" cobia. The boat we were on Sunday went on a bottom trip Sat. He said that they had a good day fishing about 6 miles off shore. He did not say what or how many they caught. |

Did you catch good numbers based on six people. Was the group satisified with the days catch.

Yes because of the past history of B2B we were all happy.
We lost more fish both days than we caught. The party of 6 had 8-10 king / 5 spanish. |

21 Oct 06 – 10 Hrs H&L – Panama City Beach, Fl
The group was underway at 7:30am aboard the Born to Boogie out of Panama City Beach, Fl with Capt Mike at the helm. The plan was to head to some live bottom and put some ARS in the cooler before the end of the season 31 Oct. We hit 5 spots all day and would have hit more except the final stop was a barn burner. The mooring started off slow but while moving spots we ran across some really good show on the finder. In the process of turning back to mark this new spot everyone yelled “look at that” and without hesitation the deckhand threw the bottle (different spot). Everyone dropped lines once the boat was in position and it was none stop fish over the rail. We caught around 70+ fish total all day most on the last spot. The majority of fish caught we just shy of being keepers 15” and 15 ½”. Whoever said that ARS have been thinned out is full of sh!t. Had some break-offs after being pounded to the rail and almost landed a 4ft Dusky but he snapped the line at the boat.
The results: 70+ fish caught and released and 27 keepers with a mix of ARS, Trigger, Beeliners, white snapper, and a lonely spade fish. Great time was had by all and some good eating when we got home. I would recommend this charter to anyone looking for a boat that is fast and will hit multiple spots to put quality fish in the boat. Took a trip on May 6th 2007 and had an great time. Captain Mike knew just where the fish were at and his mate (Eric) is a Cobia Master...It was a terrific trip, one that my son and I will remember for a long time. We brought in a lot of fish. The trophy for the day was a 65lb Cobia that was caught on a spinning rod with 20lb test. What a fight. Thanks again Born to Boogie...We will definitely be back for more.

Just let me say this if the captain puts you over half the fish on earth and shows them to you on his Fish FINDERS, and the 1st mate catches his limit of Red Snapper in 20 minutes, you can go home pissed but u should be pissed at the angler, or Anglers. That is the most common contributing factor on trips. THE ANGLERS! Think about it.

Not much "Boogie" in Born To Boogie
Well, apparently some things have not changed in two years....
I gave them the benefit of the doubt based on a couple people here reporting the boat was fully operational after the others complained about engine issues....my mistake. Must be some of the Captn's friends coming on here to try deflect some of the storm and I got suckered in. The 34' Scarb could not even get on plane. We putzed out to the fishing spot at a max of 10mph. I knew we were F*&KED when we got out of the no wake zone and the weekenders blew by us while we did not go on plane. We fished two spots less than a mile apart in 6 hrs and never were more than 6 miles from the outlet. Understandable given the engine situation. Capt Mike is a nice guy and his mate worked his tail off to show us a good time. Capt Mike put us over a bunch of Red Snapper which were fun to catch, but since we fished in late December we were not allowed to keep any. We boated over 30 Red Snapper, several of keeper size in the 6 hours and missed more than we hooked. We boated a couple dozen Grouper as well, but only one big enough to keep. So bottom line, our rods were bent most of the time we fished, so it is kind of hard to complain too much, but I have to think that if we were able to hit some spots a little further out and hop around a bit we might have been able to find one that had a few keeper Grouper. As it was we sorted through a boatload (litterally) of fish to get one keeper to eat. One the bright side, we threw down a big bait hoping for a bigger grouper and I ended up spending 40 minutes battling a 7'-8' 200# plus bull shark on 30# line with a 50# mono leader. Luck was with us as the 4/0 hook was right in the corner of the mouth and he never got to bite us off. We cut the leader when I had him beat and to the boat. So we had a good time overall catching fish. Bottom line, I WOULD NOT hire this boat again. If it was Red Snapper season and I was with some guys that didn't mind peeing over the side..maybe. I know he can put you on Red Snapper if that is all your care about..or Sharks. I WOULD NOT consider Born To Boogie for an offshore trolling trip. The boat basically is a POS. Red/Green light on front bow was DUCT TAPED to the bow rail. Everywhere I looked something was broken. My wife wouldn't dream of using the head on that boat and having a boat with a head was a prime consideration for her. Throw in the engine situation....well, you can do a lot better for $600. Yes, Captn Mike was a nice enough guy and we caught fish the entire trip, so I can't say it was a complete rip off. But the boat situation certainly is a detraction from the overall experience and limits what they can do. I fish a lot in FL and Mexico, as well as run a 33' boat in the Great Lakes for salmon so know what to expect. If it was my first charter I might not have known the difference... This trip was below expectation in many ways, but if having snapper and grouper on the line constantly is all that matters to you then you will have that in spades to be fair to Capt Mike. And his mate worked his tail off to help us have a good time. Last edited by TERMINATOR; January-21st,2009 at 07:02 PM. |

Man, I REALLY hate to hear about spending that much money on a bad boat and bad fishing.
Sounds like Born-to-boogie will be put on my list of boats to avoid. Fellas, you should try "Family Generation" next time you want a PCB charter. This is our catch from a 6 hour trip in July:
