I was born in Panama City, and I've had a BIG appetite for 50 years! As a result, I have BIG opinions about where people (mainly me) should eat. No muss... no fuss.. these are the best places in Panama City Beach to eat (at least this week - there are new ones popping up daily!):
Capt. Anderson's is #1. Boatyard is #2 Canopies is #3 Schooners is #4 and the Capt's Table in St. Andrews is #5. There are lots of reasons for including such a wide range of casual and fine dining restaurants in my list, but you owe it to yourself to try them all and do your OWN ratings! |

Yes, was down this weekend but had to cut short due to in-laws arrval. You know Aunt Francis, comes in and wreaks the place. :D
The wife and I have kind of made it our mission to try as many places as we can and have done so on a regular basis for the past 3 years. We boat a good bit and it would be a little nicer if there were a few more places to choose that you can go to via boat. There are a couple of nice resturants on the water but they do not have dockage or what dockage they have is either not accessable or in poor condition or blocked out by stationary dock hogs. A resturant with a dock needs to become a destination for a boater. A great boating resturant to trip to is the Port St. Joe marina resturant. Safe harbor, plenty of dockage and they have great food. :D |

Hamiltons is better than Captn Anderson
You may disagree, but I have eaten at both several times and hands down the food and service are much better at Hamiltons...

Disagree with what? I agree Hamilton's is a good place to eat dinner. Good food, Fair pricing and better than average service land them in the Good Category. I don't place them above a number of others based on my simple formula of evaluation. :D

The Boondocks is gone or the Boat Yard? Pictures I have seen don't support any damage to the Boatyard. As far as the Boondocks is concerned that place looks like it could have blown away with a good east wind long ago. But as I have learned places like that can be great eaterys. I go bye it all the time on the way to Destion on the ICW. If they only had a decent dock to tie up to I would be glad to stop and try them for lunch.

Boondocks and Boatyard
The word is... Boondocks is hunky dory! I haven't seen it for myself, but I think they are just fine.
Boatyard is really lucky... the tornado that damaged or destroyed our four next door neighbors missed us completely (Hamilton's was basically destroyed, and they are lucky to be alive, because they were INSIDE the restaurant when the tornado hit). Our crew sandbagged our kitchen 4 feet of sandbags - the flood waters came up 3 feet, so we escaped disaster by a foot - thanks to the backbreaking labor of some very exceptional folks! I talked to Yonnie Patronis and Johnny Patronis at Capt. Anderson's ... their starboard windows were blown out, the patio was damaged and a chunk of their roof was ripped off, but they will REOPEN as SOON as power is restored... the bulk of the restaurant was not hurt... Schooners reopened last night! So... come on down!!!! Life is interesting on the coast! Last edited by Toni; September-18th,2004 at 08:01 AM. |

Peir 77
I have to recomend Peir 77. (I assume they are still there, havent been down for 2 years!). They have good food at a good price. Small hometown type atmosphere. Good place for families to go who maybe can't afford the higher priced places every night.
