Bad Reviews

Can anyone verify report that Hook's quality of food has gone down hill and prices up?

It has also been reported that Boatyard has dropped most of their menu for expensive entree's, any truth to that?

Boatyard menu

I ate at the Boatyard about 3 weeks ago & the menu looked pretty much the same. They still had the grouper sandwich which is my favorite!

We ate there 3 weeks ago and the food quality was disappointing, menu selection very limited, prices high and service poor.

we ate at the boatyard last weekend and everything was good. the service was a little slow, but they were really busy. the food was great and the menu looks the same as last year (but they are supposedly coming out with a new one this summer)

captain andersons was good too. i've never had a bad experience there in around 20 meals. best she crab soup in the world.

and i almost cried when i saw hamliton's was still closed after being damaged by hurricane ivan. i loved that place. oh well.

where is hooks?

Is the Boatyard pricey? I usually eat at Pineapple Willy's, Montego Bag and Hammerhead Fred's. Is the Boatyard any better or worse? Is that the same thing as The Salt Water Grill? If nt, how pricey are they>?

Boatyard's prices are very reasonable. They have a wide spectrum of prices on their menu. Their website lists the menus and prices. I know they advertise with us, but I would recommend them personally. I really like the food. Might even take my Mom there for Mother's Day (they are having a mouth-watering Mother's Day Feast!).

sawkosman, I know you had a bad experience with us, and I really am sooooooo sorry, but... we do TRY hard, and when we screw up, we admit it and try to make it good... I emailed you today - I hope you will give us another chance to prove that we can be GREAT... not just OK... but, GREAT. We are very very proud of Boatyard. We try very hard to listen to everyone's input and do a great job at affordable prices... we have a new menu coming out in a week or so, and I think you will all be pleased with the affordable prices and the new and interesting dishes Konrad and the Chef Team have come up with. We are still young, but we have come a LONG way in a very short time, and we will keep trying until we're (almost) Perfect!

TONI,

I am coming to Panama City Beach in 9 days....I had mixed emotions about coming because of the reviews here, but I read your thread and I will definitely be there! I'd like to try out this new place. I didn't get to go last year!

Looking forward to it!

~jessica

Cool, Jessica. Boatyard is truly a beautiful place, and the food is ALMOST always delicious! It's very different than most of the restaurants on the Gulf Coast, and we take it very personally... Locals out number the tourists 10 to 1 most times, so we try to keep something special and different on the menu every night. My partner and I also own Schooners, which is a cool place on the beach... more casual, but a real classic. I'd also recommend Capt. Anderson's - they are the BEST... downright legendary! If you haven't been to the beach in a while, there is a very cool newcomer in Destin area: Bianco. A bit of a drive, but RAVE reviews: www.biancocuisine.com
There are tons of great places to enjoy local flavor at great prices.... Capt's Table in St. Andrews. Andy's Flour Power on Thomas Drive. Pineapple Willies... you'll have fun!

I think Spinnaker has made huge strides the last several years with their food. I actually prefer their ribs to Pineapple Willies and the price is much better. And no place on the beach can beat their cheeseburgers. I'd recommend Spinnaker's Paradise Grill to anyone looking for good food in Panama City Beach.

I love the food and most of the help is great too!!!!.....but....there is some lady at the register that has a not so great personality and definitely acts like she couldn't give a rip whether you go back or not. I have wondered how she could get away with acting like that and have thought she must be the owner, but sounds like you know the owner and she is not it!! Yea - If they get that kink ironed out they will be close to purrrrrrrfect

More good stuff to eat!

Hey - I have good news for all you foodies... there's a relatively new and little bitty place on Thomas Drive that is open for Breakfast and Lunch only at this time - they are GREAT!... it's called Liza's Kitchen - Cat and her husband named the place for their new infant daughter - they are the ones running things (from the register to the kitchen), so it's all done with love - no surly service. They close for dinner so they can spend time with their baby and have a normal sort of life - of course, all of their fans are trying to talk them into wrecking their happiness and opening for dinner. Trust me, it's GREAT. My favorite: the Hippie Chick sandwich. Prices are good, too. They are at 7008 Thomas Drive

And, y'all don't forget Schooners - not only is the view INCREDIBLE (live cams at this address http://www.schooners.com ), but the food is really good, too, and the beer is ice cold! Come early, grab a waterfront table, order some grilled shrimp appetizers and a platter of fresh, fat, fried Apalachicola oysters with extra lemons and cocktail sauce! YUM!

I'll second that about Liza's. They've got the best Club sandwich in the world. It's HUGE. And they have some pretty good cookies and brownies for dessert. Definitely worth a try. (I went to school with Cat's older sister... nice family!).

AND there's no better place in the world for a burger and a beer than Schooners. YUM!
