My Favorite Restuarants - 15 years eating

There are a lot of favorites throughout the years. I will try to list the ones that we have liked throughout the years.

1) We love Schooners - The food is very good, the bands are always wonderful and the atmosphere is great. Everyone needs to visit Schooners. Kids are welcome thus we take ours each year and they love it as well.

2) Boatyard - We have only eaten there a couple times. The food was very good. The atmosphere is very nice. This place has a very classy feel to it. I realize it is new and will only get better. Appears the owners are willing to make it a success, as I am sure they will. Gotta go here to eat, drink, dance or whatever. Similar to Schooners, but appears a little classier, but I prefer Schooners, more memories I guess!. Will have to spend more time at the next great place - BOATYARD

3) Captain Anderson's - Always go there. I remember my first visit as a 16 year kid renting a moped with a friend and driving here to eat. We looked at the menu and suddenly understood we could not afford much. Our $5 would only buy a salad so that is what we got. Throughout the years, we have eaten better here though. Captain Anderson is expensive if you allow it, but the food it very good. Worth your visit! Atmosphere is very nice as is the place in general. Huge investment in making the place larger and "cool".

4) Angelos - This place is really popular with my freinds. I liked the meals we have eaten there. We just have not eaten there a lot. Good food, we just prefer other places when we visit

5) Ruthie T's - Have always had a good meal here. Quite/quant place. We enjoy going here and eating an affordable meal and listening to the soft music. This place is always full so others may like it as well.

6) Hamiltons - I was not a big Hamilton Fan - My wife on the other hand was. It was once of her favorite. Fodd was good, just did not like the atmosphere and some of the staff seemed cranky.

7) BackYard BBQ - Loved this place for lunch - Little place with really good food. Always ordered carry out when I was down there. Closed now for some reason. Hated to see this!\

8) Pinapple Willey's - Excellent. Excellent Ribs - Not sure if I have had any better. But......I have only eaten there 1 time. Can not afford it. For $15 or so, only got about 5 ribs in a bucket that were about 4 inches in length. Had to go eat at Mcdonalds immediately afterwards. Ribs very good - Quantity the worst I have ever seen......And I am not a large person.

9) Breakers - Very good food - Very good view while eating. Place never crowed. We go there every year. Unfortunatley, we hear this is the last year.

10) Sweet Basil's - Very good affordable Italian food. Always a stop for us. We take out and sit in here. Really like the quality of food here. If you like Italian, you will like Sweet Basils.

11) Montego Bay - We have had great food here and not so great food. Seems like it is a hit and miss for us. Have not eaten here for a couple years, last meal was a miss.

12) Calypso - We liked this place a lot - The food is very good and always got their signature dish. Last few times, the quantity seemed to be less and less. Although the dish is very good, the quantity lacks. May not visit here for awhile, which I hate

13) Treasure ship - Kids love it, so I guess it will not matter what our food tastes like. Struggled with finding something I liked here for awhile. Last two years I have found it and order it everytime. The pastabowel is very good and that is what I get.

14) Chicago Dawgs - Little place to take a good hotdawg home. I always stop by.

15) Boars Head - Eaten there a couple times and both time have been great. Would eat there more but it is down the road a ways and we just have other places closer. Good choice for those wanting a quite quality meal.

16) Bayou Bills - Place we go for crabs. Not me but my wife, she loves this place for crabs. The food is good and costs the same as other places, If you like crabs, they are known for them

17) Pompanos - For years we never ate here. Had a bad meal some years ago. Just recently we went back and they are very very good. There is a reason it so popular.

18) Hammerhead Fred's - We like this place - Inexpensive and pretty good food. Have eaten there a couple times. Good choice on the menu. Something for everyone.

19) Home Made Ice Cream - I have NEVER had ice cream as good as this. They really do make it themselves and the taste is evident. We always stop in here a bunch of time. We have started calling ahead and ordered pints and take them back to the condo. This is THAT good. If you are heading away from the miracle strip, this place is in a little complex area on the right hand side just past the Fountain Le Bleu Hotel. Very Very good

20)Sonny's - A favorite of my family - OK for me. Every year I order a gallon of the baked beans and bring them back. Never in my life have I tasted any beans better then Sonnys

Well, that is enough for now, I am starting to get hungry!

Paradise Grill at Spinnaker. The food is great! And they have a huge menu... and the best sunsets on the Beach.

Frankie D's on Thomas Drive has the BEST pizza. Plus they deliver.

We've also started venturing West a little... toward Grayton Beach/Seaside/Seagrove. Red Bar is always good. Criolla's is amazing if you're in the mood for a fine dining experience. Cafe 30-A is always good... and Bud & Alley's just plain rocks. Also, try Pandora's, Borago's... and one we've yet to try - Luna Del Mar.

Here's a new restaurant the kids (and most all adults) will love: Frank'n'stein's on Thomas Drive. The place, next to Taxi's Pizza and just down from the original Newby's, serves, among other things, "monster" corndogs and hotdogs (also known as "franks") and all sorts of sodas and beer (in "steins", get it?). The monster corndogs are great. They're about a foot long, served open face with no stick, and are loaded with chili, mustard, craut and onions. They're just fantastic, and filling, too! The place, which I believe used to be an Omelete Shoppe or something similar, is decorated with all sorts of Frankenstein movie posters and trivia. The place also serves things such as chicken fingers, cheese sandwiches, chicken sandwiches and much more. For dessert you can get a Snickers or Milky Way fried on a stick like a corndog. It may sound odd, but it's good! I loved the place because it's so unique, the type of place PCB used to be packed with. You definitely should give Frank'n'stein's a try when you're down there!

I ate at Frank'n'steins a couple weeks ago when I was down. It was pretty good and fairly cheap compared to a lot of the other options in the area. I would definitely go back if given the chance. I don't know about those fried candy bars though. Sounds like an instant heart attack to me.

Yep, those fried candy bars are awfully sweet. But Frank'n'stein's also has funnel cake, which is also good. The only slightly negative thing I can think of about the place is that you get plastic forks and knives with your meal. I felt I needed to be armed with some stainless steel when taking on those monster corndogs. But that's a minor quibble. I highly recommend the place.

We ate at Frank'n'steins for lunch today... and I wasn't too impressed... except for the fried Snickers bar. Wow! That was awesome!

By virtue of living in Panama City, everyone we know wants us to show them a good time when they come to visit. We have probably eaten at every restaurant on the beach and in PC. Our favorite is the Saltwater Grill located on Hutchison Blvd. It is a little on the high end, depending on what you order. However, it has a fabulous built in floor to ceiling fish aquarium, (the size of a room) that can be seen from all tables, making it a one of a kind dining experience. The food has always been consistently good with plenty of unique as well as regular menu items. The barbecue salmon sounds wierd, but is out of this world delicious! Our guests are always impressed!

don't forget these two

Scampy's is really good, just go early. They It's a small place, down at the Y near St. Andrews Park. Also, over the bridge in old St. Andrews there is the Captains Table. Probably one of the best seasoned steaks I ever had in PCB. And of course, the seafood is great too.

Another local here......you have a great list! The only other place I can think of that deserves a mention is Boondocks. Wonderful food, reasonably priced. There is usually a wait during the season, but the food is well worth it. You can take an airboat or seaplane ride while you wait. It's located on 79 north about 5 miles north of the beach. Under the bridge at Red Bay on the water.

St. Andrews & 30A

if you haven't visited St. Andrews in a while (on the east side of the New bridge in Panama City), you owe it to yourself to try the Captains Table. This is true "old Florida style" cooking, and the price is not bad at all! As a matter of fact, it's downright cheap. Hot!

Also, you have to try Bianco on 30A. It's about as different as you can get from the Captains Table, but cooking some of the finest food that has ever been served on the Gulf Coast. Jack Shoop, the chef and owner is one of only 15 master chefs in Florida, and this restaurant is awesome!

Thumbs up

Luna Del Mar closed and Bianco is on 98 in Destin.

Just had some yummy apps at the bar last night at Cuvee Beach. ALL 1/2 price on Tuesday nights which was a SURPRISEfor the Mrs.and I.

Johnny Chicago serving up the grub and grog. Actually a bit more upscale than that.

Had the tuna tower which thewife did not share much of, a wedge saladwith great blue cheese dressing, calamari and tried to finish off a small app pizza with crabmeat and shrimp. All great eats.

Johnny let me try some sparkling Rose, A Newton unfiltered Chard and I had a great Newcastle on draft. Wifey had a glass of 1993 Conundrum.

Had not been here in awhile and was nice to get back.
