For any of those who are a little hesitant when it comes to trying new and exotic things...i.e..Sushi. I promise you won't be disappointed or "grossed out" if you try the gator roll at Pompanos. It's truly one of the best things that I have ever put in my mouth. Tempura fried gator meat with a delicious sauce rolled up like Sushi...or if you're really feeling brave the eel nigiri..which is actually cooked as well, melts in your mouth like a tender piece of white fish with a sweet and subtle taste of barbucue sauce.
The AWESOME sushi chefs will take very good care of you, will remember what you like, and are full of information and suggestions. |

There you go again making me wish I was there. :D
We've only eaten at Pompanos once, several years ago and we were disappointed. When we were down this summer, I saw where they had added a sushi bar. Since we love sushi, maybe we should give the sushi bar a try since you give it such a great review. |

Hmmmm. ...maybe you went to Pompanos on an off night. I haven't eaten in the main dining room yet, because I never make it past the sushi bar. It really is that good.
The atmosphere is great too...you can sit at the bar, which is always fun... the chefs love to chat and entertain, or there are a few booths and tables too. It's cozy and intimate, but still casual. Mori is really good for sushi too. It's in town a little ways, but worth the drive. It's an all out Japanese Steakhouse with a large dining room for Hibachi, and a gorgeously desgined sushi bar. This would be a great weekend for you guys to make a spontaneous trip down. There's a lot going around the beach, The Indian Summer Festival, and the Bay County Fair is also in town. And at the Boardwalk Beach Resort is the Shag-O-Rama for everyone that loves beach music and loves to dance. You're only a couple of hours away, right?

Just to add another perspective, my wife and I had dinner at Pompanos in 2003, and it was by far the most disappointing experience of our trip. The food was sub-par, the staff oblivious-verging-on-rude (too busy flirting with one another), and to top if off, we paid $70 or $80 for the experience.
We're coming back next month, and that's one place that is already crossed off our list. |
