We also had 4 in our party and ate there at our table nreasono problems on the tip but we had a waitress that had been there several years. I share your anger in .the way you were treated. There is no way that should happen. I am sure the owners would like to know if that happens.

shuckems and other poor places to eat

My family visit shuckems this week for our annual visit for the best cold beer and oysters we have had the luck to find. This year was a little different brought more family with us that have never been to Panama City along for the trip. We were seated in a reasonable time considering our party was 10 people although we were at different table and different tabs. Trouble began with our waitress, telling us that the shuckers were way behind in shucking oysters, and it would take a few minutes to get out oysters., so we ordered wings and some appetizers’ to hold us over, the beer we ordered was served in a pitcher with onion peel inside of it and when we pointed this out the waitress didn’t seem to concerned, but did swap out the pitcher, we kept asking about our oysters, we saw people come and go and they didn’t seem to be having to wait on there food, after 30 min at least we asked how much longer!! Our waitress told us that a large group of people outside on the deck had ordered 25 doz and that was the hold up!! I could hardly believe it!, my group was seated long before the outside group, our order placed before them yet I didn’t get any of my oysters so that they could have 25 doz at one time!!! We decided not to wait any longer as we had already been waiting at this point an hour, so we ask for out tickets, somehow the waitress had added a 17 % gratuity even though we were at different tables, and different tickets and neither one of our party had 6 people!! Just too much disappointment to even express. I left paying a 60 tab with not one oyster!! I am a trip advisor reporter, and I will make sure I note the service and problems with shuckems, after years or going, I had never had such an expensive and disappointing trip, without at least some type of compensation for the incovience. If you go to an oyster joint, the last thing you should not have ready and available is oysters!! I really would have expected someone to offer us to come back and oysters on the house or SOMETHING, but our waitress who assured us she was the manger, said only had 2 shuckers and doing the best they could, that was all we got. For about total both tables 120.00 tab and both tickets 17% gratuity!!

That's too bad cinibun... sounds like Shuckums may need to work on their customer service. Hopefully someone who can fix their problems will read these complaints get them back to the level of service that people have fallen in love with for the last 20 years or more.

Welcome to the forums, btw...

So, you're a TripAdvisor reporter? How'd you get that gig? I love that website. Interested in being a TripSmarter reporter, too???

Another rip off by shuckums?

I wish you could have read my report of how Shuckums treated me before you went. I didnt have 6 in my party either and got stuck with a gratuity. I would love to know LEGALLY do patrons have to pay that tip? Even if i have 6 or more in the party, do i LEGALLY have to pay that if the service is not good?

I also wrote Shuckums and not one word back or comment. I betcha my paycheck that wasnt the MANAGER waiting tables either. She might have been head waitress which by what you said is not a very good one at that.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I will never go back there. That is for sure!!

The owner is orginally from Hueytown, Alabama and not a female server. I ate there 2 time Memorial Day and 2 times 4th of July. They happened not to be crowded 2 of the times. But I ate 2 dozen oysters on half shell both times and did not have to wait. I am sure there were 3 shuckers all 4 times at least 3. One guy is super good he must have been the on that was out. Still a SUPER BUMMER for your vacation no excuse should have had some backup shuckers.

Icon7 Gulf Club is the Greatest!

We usually try to eat at the Gulf Club in Panama City a couple of times every visit. It's about two miles east of the Hathaway Bridge on the south side of the road, across from U-Haul. The food is exceptional, the presentation is impressive, and best of all the prices are excellent! Fresh seafood, steaks, pastas, and chicken. Most entrees run $9 to $16 and include hot rolls with butter, salad, vegetable medley, and choice of potato. The food and service are comparable to Captain Andersons at half the price. Dress is casual to resort casual. The interior decor is a bit out dated, but the value more than makes up for any short coming. The restrooms are nice and clean. Be sure to call before going. Their hours are something like 11:00am to 2:00pm and 4:00pm to 9:00pm and I don't think they're open on Sundays.

Sweet Racks is filipino mixed with southern style ribs and from everyone that got it said they liked it, I got the tocino chicken each time... I went there several times while I was visiting friends and fam in pcb and I love it. Jin Jin is also a new restaurant that is chinese and japanese food and their sushi is great.

Try Pier 77

I didn't see anyone mention Pier 77. We ate there twice last week while we were in PCB. We had grouper one night and red snapper the other. The food is good and it will not empty your wallet. Save room for dessert. The key lime pie and strawberry cake is good. Most other places charge about $5 for key lime, but it is only $3 at Pier 77. It is one of the better pieces of pie we had while we were there. Check out their webiste. www.pier77pcb.com I think the prices have gone up about $1 on the plates. They haven't changed the menu on the website yet. Everyone was friendly and the service was good. It is one of the few places you can get early bird dinners.

Pier 77 sounds good!

I have no idea how many times I've driven past Pier77 but I've never stopped. I hope their open in early October. Even if the website needs updating the prices look good. $1.49 house margaritas? Gotta try that. Thanks for posting about the Pier Mikatkait.

We have eaten at Pier 77 once and that was enough. The service was horrible and the food wasn't that great either. There were 7 of us and none of us were happy with our meal. Four of us ordered raw oysters and they ended up giving them to another table and it just went downhill from there.
If you go, hopefully you'll have a better experience.

Pier 77

Sorry Gagirl for your bad experience. I have had good and better meals from Pier 77.

Ridge Pier 77 usually stays open all year long for lunch and supper. I think a lot of locals go there for lunch and they have a lot of regulars that go there often. I had the best Red Snapper in July I think I have ever had or in years. It was inseason and fresh. I hope you have a good meal.

Firefly

Has anyone tried Firfly? I know it is on the expensive side, but mostly I've heard good things...

Thanks again Mikatkait. I like checking out the locals hangouts. It doesn't always work out but you never know until you try. Tripsmarter feedback has always been a big help, especially since we only can get there once a year. I'll let you know how it goes.
