where to eat - this will help
just got back from weeklong trip, like so many others worried to death about where to go at night, as really few attrations anymore, the main nightly attration is dinner... We took a gamble and went to Boondocks had read so much about it before i went, it was indeed great, had the whole flounder probably the best fish ive had, and the hushpuppie were great too, desert out of this world, Now the downside, wayy off the beaten path, and super long wait, we waited like almost hour and half!! i think the only reason they seated us then was i was telling my husband lets go!! so if you go, make sure to start drinking in the bar, and be prepared. in the end it Was great. Next Angelos steak pit, what can i say, i have never had a bad steak, However you cannot order medium rare steak unless you like it still mooing, as it will be reallllly red not pink and they do not let you send it back... must try the house greek dressing, even my kids like it..shuckems, uggh dont even get me started, the worst service ive ever had, after over an hour wait on raw oysters we finally left without one oyster!! i will never go back.. Went to bishops all you can eat buffett, now i had a party of 10 with two of the 10 being really big guys, the place is nothing fancy at all, and really the other food on the bar pales in comparison to the crablegs, but all you can eat at 23.00 per person is better than what i paid last year at treasure ship and they were cold!! and maybe a pound if that for 30.00. last night we were to Montego bay, just to tired to wait forever, somewhere else, but i would suggest skip schooners unless you are going to drink and dance, capt anderson's has a great atmosphere and the lobster bisque is my favorite thing on the menu, but for the money you can get soo much more somewhere else.. skip treasure ship unless you are going for drinks alone, and even then very expensive. try at all cost to skip the tourist trap places, they are more than happy to take your money and leave you disappointed.

I'd have to agree about skipping the tourist trap restaurants. (But then again, I'm local so I'm prejudiced.
)If you really want to hit the "local" seafood places, you need to head east of the Hathaway Bridge. A few notables are: Hunt's Oyster Bar & Seafood Restaurant @ 1150 Beck Avenue in St. Andrews Uncle Ernie's Bayfront Grill & Brew House @ 1151 Bayview Avenue, also in St. Andrews Captain's Table Fish House Restaurant & Oyster Bar @ 1110 Beck Avenue, also St. Andrews Gene's Oyster Bar @ 302 Sherman Avenue, in Millville (And bear in mind this is a true oyster bar! Nothing fancy, just really good Apalachicola oysters plus a few extras. Definitely a "local" joint.) |

Welcome to the forums RedSpeck. Always great to get some local perspective on things...
(found my first and only pearl in an oyster at Gene's... nearly broke my tooth!) |

WE love Boondocks but always try to go early, same for Angelos and Capt. Anderson's. Tomorrow night will either be Angelo's or Anderson's, decisions, decisions......... :)

Thanks for the welcome, swn5363!
![]() And rcraw45425, you've got a tough decision to make there. Personally, I think I'd opt for Angelo's, but then again I've been in the mood for a good steak all day! Either way though, you really can't go wrong with either restaurant. Bon appetit'! |
