Conch!

OK, I guess there's not a lot of demand for conch and I can see why ( especially if you read about them via Wikipedia ). I first tried it in the Caymans some time ago and while I didn't know what it was all I knew was I thought the taste was killer! Last year while at Margaritaville I saw conch fritters on the menu. It had been a long time since I had them and while not up to what I remembered in the Caymans they were very good. We'll be back soon and I was wondering if there are other sources nearby that may also offer this tasty little treat. Thanks everyone for the help!

Mrs Peel will become famous soon enough
Conch is everywhere in the Keys and south Florida, but the further north you go in Florida, it's availability thins out. However, I think the Boatyard has conch fritters, or at least they used to, since their chef is from the Keys. Also, I've bought conch chowder from the Cardenas Seafood Market.
I know what you mean about conch. I love it in fritters or chowder, but if you've ever seen a whole conch fresh out of the shell, you'd think twice about eating it!

Actually out of the shell is the first way I ever laid eyes on conch. Some locals in the Caymans were having a cookout on the beach and I got talked into trying a bite. Oysters are hardly the cutest thing to look at either but they sure are tasty! The first conch I tried was mixed into a giant hushpuppy and deep fried which to me makes almost everything good.
