the Flamingo Motel is another one thats left. Its down on the west end also, really close to Pier Park. I've heard mixed reviews about the place and last I heard it was only around 130 a night and thats during Spring Break, so I can imagine it'll drop to around 100 a night, if not 90 a night after Spring Break is over.

ksumn1 is on a distinguished road
My family and I stayed at the Flamingo in October 2005. It is an older, well maintained motel. When we checked in, we discovered our A/C was leaking and that there was a puddle under the window. We called the front desk and by the time we had all our luggage in, it was fixed. We had a cabana level room, 2 Queen beds with a kitchen for $59 a night. There are 2 pools and a hot tub. We really like it. They have a pretty detailed website also.

Well I'm beginning to think they don't make places for the low income families anymore...lol..I've checked into all the places mentioned in this thread...looks like the best rate we could get anywhere is Seascape for 120. Guess that will have to be it. Thanks again for everyone's input.

We stay at the Ocean Terrace every year. Family run and always clean. Right on the beach.

Is the Peeks Motel still there? It was a little mom & pop place kinda wedged in between 2 bigger places. Had friends on a budget that stayed there several times years ago & they had no complaints (Although they jokingly called it the "Bates Motel"). Places can change hands & go downhill in a hurry, though.

Peeks lives on....

Yeppers - Peeks is one that survived - I am not certain if ownership has changed, but they are still around and open for business - at least they were when I went to the West end about a month ago....

Anybody ever stayed at Ambassador? That's where my family ended up making reservations but they don't know anything about it. It was 99.00 a night though so it was the cheapest they found.

If anyone knows anything out there in that price range please let me know...thanks.

Try the PEEKS motel. It is fairly nice, right on the beach, and under $100 a night.

I noticed you are from FL.....right? If you tell the hotel staff you are a florida native and show proof you may get a sizable discount.

Well this is kind of a late post, but I lost my internet and just now getting back. They stayed at the Ambassador. I went down for a day only. Ambassador wasn't what I expected but it was decent. Its obviously outdated but its kept neat and clean. It had a fairly large pool and a nice spa. Would I stay again? Probably. Would I recommend it? Only depends what you're looking for.

Thomas Dr.?

What about all those small places on the east end of Thomas Dr. close to St. Andrews park - the Sun Glo, Panama Palms, Eden Roc? Are they still there?

They close down in October for some reason, and don't open back up until march I think.
