Icon5 Any mom and pop style motels left on PCB

I go to PCB every year except last year....and I know there's alot of changes going on...so are there any of the older mom and pop style motels left on PCB? My parents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc...all come down and vacation together...and that's what they prefer...usually paying only around 120 a night....its starting to look like they may have to find a new place to vacation. If anyone knows anything out there in that price range please let me know...thanks.
Kim

Hi Kim - Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for submitting all the great NOLA & PCB reviews tonight!

There are a handful of smaller motels & hotels left... a few that I can think of off-hand are the Chateau, Plaza Motel and Fountaine Bleu Terrace. Sandpiper fits that same category I guess. I'll think of some more....

mom and pop motels

Well those seem to be higher priced ones....I looked at Chateau and it was listed at 150 a night....I'm looking for mom and pop ones at 120 or less if they're still out there. Thanks.

Mom And Pop Places

What about the ole Sea Witch Motel? They have renamed it....Grand Cayman. Its the same set up, just not sure of the price. I know last year i called and got a room for 99/night in July. Its on the quiet far west end near Winn Dixie.

I forgot about the Sea Witch... I'll take a look next time we're at that end of the beach. Lots of hotels are getting makeovers right now.

Another I forgot to mention is Bikini Beach on Front Beach Rd.

Kim - try our online hotel search for Panama City Beach.. there are some good deals available. What time of year do you usually vacation in PCB?

Are they up and running yet. we use to stay there with the kids before it got torn down. Have they fully opened it on beachside yet? The rates looks fair price to me.

We stayed at the Grand Cayman last April. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone. That's what I get for letting someone else make the reservations. Hope you find someplace nice.

what was wrong

gagirl, i know this place has not made any NEW UPDATES, but it wasnt nasty. At least my room was clean. The rooms had a smoky smell, but most rooms do.

What was wrong for you to have a bad experience if you dont mind me asking?

I usually make several small trips a year, but just haven't been able to make it lately...had a baby so having a very busy year. My parents always go down in July...the week of July 15 to be exact..and I'm hoping to make it myself. Every time we find a good place to stay they say they're tearing it down at the end of the season for another condo. I know alot of people like them...but I miss the old PCB.

I do thank everyone for your suggestions....I'll check into them and pass the info on to the family. My aunt always makes the reservations for the whole family. Anything else you think of let me know.

alabamabeachlover....Our group had two rooms and they were both nasty. They not only smelt of smoke but also had a mildewy/musty smell. I just felt dirty the whole weekend. Also, the people at the front desk were not helpful or interested in hearing anything we had to say. They couldn't care less.
I have to admit that their website makes them look great....very misleading in my opinion.

We always stay at the Mariner West on Thomas Drive. It's our home away from home.

alabamabeachlover....here is your post from last year (July 5, 2006)
concerning Grand Cayman. Just wondering why you would recommend it this year when you told people last year to stay away?!?!?

It was sold and SUPPOSEDLY is suppose to be torn down for condo. Now with that said, i checked into my room to see the floor had been damaged with a iron. the fridge was leaking all over the floor. The walls appeared to have been painted over mold. Knowing i could not find another place, i decided to just live with where i chose. Went to pool to find 20 out of about 28 pool chairs busted or cracked. Pool had massive amounts of hair floating on pool bottom. Never once seen management test the water samples. The second day a man sat in one of the chairs and fell straight through to concrete. Amazingly he was not hurt but highly emabarrased. I went to management at this time and complained that someone will own the dump from law suits if they dont take a little bit better care of the place. The grounds were not mowed and all weedy. So my advise to anyone is STAY AWAY!! I got a discounted rate somehow, but i was in office when someone called to check rates. They quoted 180/night for that dump? The brand new condo';s along the beach is cheaper than that in places. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME THERE.
