Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum

Can someone tell me about the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola?
Is it free, how long does it take to see the major attractions and where is it?
I'll be in Pensacola for only an afternoon later this month. Wanted to kill some time....
Thanks.

Thumbs up

The Naval Air Museum in Pensacola is a great place to spend a few hours or spend all day.

The Museum is located within the Pensacola Naval Air Station. When you get to the gate, just ask the guard where the museum is and they will give you directions.

The museum is free. There is a small charge for the IMAX movie and for a few other small things. For me, the attraction is the aircraft (including one built by the Wright (Bros.) Aircraft Company!). You will see aircraft from all eras of Naval aviation. You can take a guided tour or just wander around admiring the wonderfully preserved aircraft.

If you have time, they have a tram tour of where they store some of the larger retired aircraft. And, if you are lucky, the Blue Angels may be practicing that day and you can watch them practice.

Go and enjoy yourself. Let us know how it was!

Alan.

I've been looking forward to seeing some of those older aircraft and this is exactly the type of information I've been looking for. I'll definately stop by the museum on my trip through Pensacola.

Thanks, Alan!

PS. Can you reccommend a good local restaurant nearby? Perhaps some seafood or BBQ where pilots and crews eat? I like to take in the whole experience...

Sorry. I can't help you on a place where the Pilots eat. However, near the courthouse in Pensacola is a small seafood restaurant named Sam's Seafood. You won't see pilots but you will see the "movers and shakers" of Escambia County enjoying lunch at this local place.

Enjoy!
