Fall and Football

Labor Day is right around the corner, and while most of the visitor seasons are ending, fall signifies the beginning of another great season - Football! Whether you follow the NCAA ranks or the professionals within weeks you will find yourself heading to the sports bars for some great weekend fun!

Though every sports bar has its similarities - pitchers of beer, finger foods, jersey clad fanatics and nerve racked fantasy players; each bar also has its distinct personality that separates it from the rest. Here are some of Club Hour's favorite spots to sit and relax while watching the old pigskin fly:

Atlanta - Everyone knows Jocks and Jills is THE place for locals and visitors to congregate for fun football action, BUT for total immersion you have to head towards Buckhead to the ESPN Zone. From their full participation arcade to their front row of leather loungers, this bar is a sport's fans dream! A wall of TVs plus table sized ones at every booth - just one of the reasons people wait in line hours before the game to get a front row ticket to 'the game.'

New Orleans - This is a city that is not lacking a place to enjoy a cocktail and a football game. The winner for me in the Big Easy has got to be the SuperDome. Sure it’s not technically a bar, but they serve some beer there and talk about a good view of the game! Be a part of the comeback story of the New Orleans Saints and get your tickets now, whether you can afford 50-yard line front row or the top of the dome, every seat is memorable when you are watching the Saints make history!

Key West - Ok, I concede that this town is not known as a sports town. In fact other than the high school I would be surprised if there was an area large enough to host a pick up game of football, but for the fans there are a couple of places to find your favorite team playing! One of my favorites on the island has got to be Jack Flats on Duval. They redefine the term big screen with their floor to ceiling TV screens. While there I would suggest one of their incredible burgers too, a perfect day in paradise...even if you are inside watching the game!

Myrtle Beach - This is an easy one for me...if you like games, sports, fun, and crowds, head over to Broadway at the Beach to Broadway Louis'. Its sort of a pentathlon when it comes to sports bars. It offers food, drink, TV screens, a full arcade and KARAOKE! Yup at halftime, if you team is losing you can slip next door and sing the blues to take you mind off your miserable game day! And if you team loses really bad...well Senor Frogs is 10 steps away for a shot of compassion filled tequila!

Destin - In Destin/Ft. Walton, I cannot think of a better place to watch football than the upstairs sports lounge at Anglers. As soon as you step off the elevator you are surrounded by wall sized screens of each and every game! For those who like to be more hands on, Angler's even has a 15-foot screen hooked to Madden 08 on the XBOX. There is so much visual stimulation in this room you will almost forget their food and beer selection.

Panama City - Being based out of PC, I have a few favorites here locally. From the Fantasy Football headquarters of the world at Calypsos to the smaller places like Time Out and Mulligans, Panama City has a nice variety of places to see your favorite team play. The newest member of the team this year is Beef O'Bradys on the beach. I would normally call this bar 'the rookie' but its sister location in Lynn Haven has provided a family friendly sports experience for years and I imagine the one on the beach will continue the tradition as well!

So there you have it, Club Hour's favorite spots for the big game....let's hear from the fans...where are your favorites to catch the action?
