During the early 1870s, French Impressionist Master, Edgar Degas traveled to New Orleans to get away from Paris for a while and visit with his mother's family. Degas loved New Orleans... he lived and painted here in this beautiful home on Esplanade... just 11 blocks from the French Quarter. One room was dedicated to painting and during his time here, he completed at least 22 works of art... many recognized the world over. Possibly the most famous being his relative, Michel Musson's cotton office.
Degas' famous home and studio have been beautifully restored as a widely renowned Bed and Breakfast, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Daily tours are conducted by Edgar Degas' great grand niece... one of the most popular tours takes place mid-morning and offers the option of a sumptuous breakfast. The tour begins with an award-winning documentary about Degas and the paintings inspired by life in New Orleans.
