How is the beach in Destin?

My family is planning a trip to Destin, and we will be arriving on Aug.1 and staying through the 6th. Like some of the other vacationers to Destin, I would like to know how the beaches really are. Our condo told us they are fine, but I would really like to know from someone who's there. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Based on pictures of sites posted on this board and talking to Sundestin and Silver Dunes, the beaches are in pretty good shape in that immeadiate area. But go East a couple miles and the pictures of the beach shows a lot of erosion. We'll be driving down from KC to Sundestin the second week of September.

My husband talked to a fellow worker that just came back from Ft. Walton, he said Walton was in great shape, but Destin was pretty bad. As of last week Hwy 98 is one lane, and the beach were bad. But I'm sure parts of the beach is OK, you just have to find that part of the beach. Photos that I have found have been devasting!

I just returned from Destin tonight. We stayed at the Sundestin and we had a great time. The beaches were great and the ocean was extremely clear on our last day at the beach yesterday....Sundestin is awesome. Don't cancel your trip , everything was great !!
