    One Month Since Hurricane Katrina

    Le Parvenu Reopens For Dinner Today. Chef Dennis Hutley, owner of the excellent restaurant in Kenner's Rivertown, says that unless some new challenge appears unexpectedly, he will open for dinner tonight. The restaurant is near the river, and therefore well out of any flood waters. He says he will have to keep the menu simple, offering a short list of specials. He will open for dinner at five until it seems like time to close, Monday through Saturday, and for Sunday brunch.

    Here's the menu:
    Soup of the Evening
    Salad Maison, Choice of five dressings
    * * *
    Broiled Catfish Fillet, Artichoke Hearts, Capers, Smoked Lemon Beurre Blanc
    Grilled Filet Mignon, Marchand di Vin and Peppercorns, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables
    New Orleans' Lima Beans and Bay Leaf Rice with Grilled Boneless Pork Chop, Smoked Sausage, or Grilled Ham
    * * *
    Le Parvenu Lemon Crepes with Citrus Sauce
    Vanilla Ice Cream and Hazelnut Sauce

    Le Parvenu is at 509 Williams Blvd. between the railroad track and the river, in Kenner. The phone number (which Chef Dennis says is not working consistently) is 471-0534.

    Drago's Kitchen Is Up And Running. The great oyster restaurant is not really open for business, but the kitchen has been cooking and serving food to relief workers and others, free. This gives us two bits of good news. First, Drago's is okay, will reopen, and is keeping its people busy. Second, the great generosity of the Cvitanovich family in a pinch is as solid as ever. Thank you, Drago, Klara, Tommy, and Gerry!

    ZydeQue Cajun Barbeque

    October 3, 2005 08:07 AM
    Quarter barbeque restaurant back in biz

    NEW ORLEANS — Another French Quarter eatery has re-opened.

    ZydeQue Cajun Barbeque is back in business at 808 Iberville St. and serving lunch and dinner daily from 11:30 a.m. until curfew.

    Though the restaurant sustained little physical damage due to Hurricane Katrina additional steps and accommodations were necessary to get the restaurant operational again.

    Partners Gary Wollerman and Executive Chef Tenney Flynn also own and operate nearby seafood restaurant GW Fins. GW Fins sustained some damage due to Hurricane Katrina and is expected to open by December of this year.

    Chef Tenney Flynn’s Cajun Barbeque menu combines versions of Louisiana barbeque with Zydeco music. ZydeQue is located at the intersection of Iberville and Bourbon streets

    Take-out orders can be placed by calling 504.565.5520.

    Cafe Du Monde will once again fill New Orleans' Jackson Square with the luscious smell of beignets and rich, chicory-laced coffee.

    The French Quarter landmark known to tourists the world over for its fried dollops of dough dusted with powdered sugar is getting ready to reopen next week, a month and a half after being shut down by Hurricane Katrina.

    The reopening is set for Wednesday Oct. 19th at 6 a.m.

    Specialty grocer Whole Foods has announced that beginning Monday, October 9, customers in the New Orleans region can call in orders for organic produce, natural meats, chilled prepared foods, and other specialty items the grocer normally carries at its Metairie and Arabella Street (Uptown New Orleans) locations.

    Orders will be delivered in a refrigerated truck one day later to the parking lot of the Metairie store (3420 Veterans Memorial Blvd.). Each order will be transferred directly from the truck to the ordering customer’s car.

    According to a newsletter distributed via email to regular customers, Whole Foods Market will continue this service “until the Metairie and New Orleans locations can reopen and guarantee the integrity of the store environments.” To place an order, customers should call 800-967-9703 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Their order will be available for pickup the following business day from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

    No orders will be delivered over the weekend, so orders placed on Friday will be shipped for delivery on Monday. For payment, Whole Foods will be accepting credit cards or checks only.

    Whole Foods has not announced a reopening date for either of its greater New Orleans locations, but in a press release distributed shortly after hurricane Katrina, a company representative indicated the damage assessment process could take several months. However, the representative also stated the company intends to reopen both stores as quickly as possible.
