Tourist Development Council members are determined to make the beach more family friendly and today bay county commissioners gave board members their stamp of approval.

County commissioners accepted the TDC's proposal to cut next year's spring break budget in half and spend more on family events, but TDC members say they're not ready to get out of the spring break business completely.

County commissioners also approved a $150,000 proposal to promote and bring m-t-v shows to Panama City Beach in 2008.

Board members say they want a better spring break image on the beach.

George Gainer, Bay County Commissioner, said, "I knew there were a lot of things we particularly didn't like out there, but I didn't realize it was to this extent and I certainly don't want to broadcast the very worst because there are a lot of families down here doing spring break and good kids."

MTV-U will host next year's spring break which is geared toward college students and has stricter alcohol standards.
