Bus
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) (404) 848-4711. Every MARTA bus stop has either a tri-colored sign or a white concrete post. To find your closest bus stop, check your route map first. It will tell you which streets your bus travels. Then look for the bus stop signs or posts along the bus route. They are located every few blocks.

Atlanta Mass Transit

Bus to Bus:
Ask the bus driver for a transfer when you pay your fare on the first bus. When you board your second bus, hand your transfer to the driver. If you need the transfer for yet another bus, tell the driver. He or she will return it to you.

Bus to Rail:
If you are using the transfer to connect with a train, just insert the transfer in the card slot at the front of the fare gate at the rail station. If you are in a bus traveling to a rail station, some stations have drop-off points that are inside the rail station, so a transfer is not needed.

These rail stations are Chamblee, Brookhaven, Lenox, Lindbergh Center, Arts Center, Midtown, North Ave.,West End, Lakewood-Ft. McPherson, East Point, College Park, Hightower and Kensington. Also, some routes at Avondale, Indian Creek and Oakland City stations do not require you to go through the faregates when transferring to a train.

Ask your bus driver for more information on these routes. If you are not traveling to one of these stations, you will need to ask the bus driver when you board for a transfer in order to ride the train. Bus-to-bus and bus-to-rail transfers have a 60-minute "free" time in which to use them before they expire.

Subway (MARTA)
The rail system's two main lines cross at the Five Points Station downtown, where TransCards and information on public transportation are available at the Ride Store, open weekdays 7AM-7PM and Saturday 8:30AM-5PM. Other Ride Store locations are at the airport, the headquarters building by the Lindbergh Station, and the Lenox Station.

Trains run 5:30 AM-1:17 AM, and large parking lots (free) are at most stations beyond downtown. Tokens, which cost $1.50 each, are required to enter the stations, and can be bought from machines outside the station entrance or at the Ride Store. Free transfers, needed for some bus routes, are available by pressing a button on the subway turnstile or requesting one from the bus driver.
