The Hyatt Regency Atlanta became famous when it opened in 1967 as the world's first atrium hotel, boasting a revolutionary 22-story atrium and marble lobby designed by renowned Atlanta architecture John Portman. The hotel towered above and illuminated the Atlanta skyline, at one time claiming "tallest building" status in Atlanta. The Hyatt remains a beacon at the core of the downtown corridor, and, even with a name that carries global recognition, this property gives way to the southern hospitality and charm of Atlanta.

Following a long day of travel I was looking forward to a little "quiet time" before an arduous schedule of meetings. When entering the room I was taken back by the new restyled guest-rooms. The Hyatt has introduced chic, studio-style accomodations bathed in rich chocolate wood colors and cream and burnt orange accents. The large work desk space with enhanced lighting and Wi-Fi was perfect. My plan to take a refresher nap before getting to work was immediately altered to a more indulgent option of putting my feet up and enjoying the view. The floor to ceiling windows stretching the entire width of the room looks out over Peachtree Street and offers spectacular views of the city. You feel like you can reach out and touch Centennial Park, The World Of Coke, AmericasMart, Georgia Aquarium, and The Georgia Dome. Restaurants, clubs, retail shops—a plethora of options laid out before me. I discovered the added benefit of creating my own mood for this setting with the iHome stereo with iPod dock. When closing the curtains at the end of the evening I sat back to catch up with the news on a 37" LCD television. This was no typical hotel--It felt more like a luxury high-rise condo.

The atrium café or bar is the perfect place to people watch while enjoying your favorite meal or libation served with southern charm. If you over indulge on the fabulous desserts you can make your way to the 24-hour Stay Fit gym, or take a walk to the skybridges that connect you to Peachtree Center where you will find shopping, and even more restaurants.

Hyatt Regency Atlanta has taken guest service and comfort to the next level. My kind of place to stay- a luxury property in the heart of the city.

P.S. On the intervals to and from your room don't get caught trying to ride the 22 floors non-stop in the glass atrium elevator…
