Westin Peachtree Plaza

  Tell a Friend

Atlanta, GA -
On my last trip to Atlanta I took one of those Architectural Walking Tours and learned so much about this exquisite skyline. One building that stood out was the Westin Peachtree Plaza; so it was while on that tour I decided that would be where I will stay on my next visit to Hotlanta.

Westin Peachtree Plaza

One building that stood out was the Westin Peachtree Plaza; so it was while on that tour I decided that would be where I will stay on my next visit to Hotlanta.

On my flight's final approach to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson I was able to identify all the buildings in downtown Atlanta, and the circular 73 story Peachtree Plaza is a standout with the sun glimmering off the glass windows. I thought to myself, "that hotel is huge, not like the small boutique hotel I stayed at a few weeks ago", and mentally geared myself for the hustle and bustle of a busy convention hotel. I was wrong, wrong, wrong!

Upon arrival at the hotel there were no lines and "pods" of check in areas to welcome you. The check-n process was fast and flavored with that wonderful Southern Hospitality; made you feel as if you had known the Desk Receptionist forever.

I booked a "Traditional" king bed room, and when I walked in the room I was sure I had been upgraded or there was a mistake. There was nothing "traditional" about this 43rd floor room with floor to ceiling windows. The view from the room was spectacular with this comfy loveseat on one side of the windows and a nice size working desk on the other, with the desk chair facing the windows. Good luck getting any work done there; so off to my meetings in Midtown, Buckhead, Downtown, and Cumberland. (On a side-note, there's a MARTA station connected to the hotel, Express buses located across the street and always a line of cabs available, so getting to all these meetings was a breeze and no rental car was needed).

After a hectic day of travel and meetings as I'm walking in the hotel I spot an old friend and we immediately headed to the Lobby Bar for libations and conversation. A great people-watching spot too.

Fred and I wanted to continue our conversation so we decided to have dinner at the Sun Dial Restaurant and Bar in the hotel. Located high atop the city on the 73nd floor the glass enclosed exterior elevator ride was like a ride at an amusement park for me. For Fred, not so much! Timing was perfect to enjoy the glimmering sunset in this revolving restaurant that completes a full revolution every 60 minutes and I was able to point out each area of the city I had meetings at.

Whether you desire light fare or a full dinner their seasonal menu offers something for everyone. We decided on our next visit to Atlanta we would again return to the Sun Dial with 6 additional people so we can all order something different and share it. Great food, outstanding service, brilliant city views and veteran company – the perfect way to end the day.

That is of course until I headed back to my room and stretched out on the loveseat, book in-hand and watched the city settle in for the night.

...and it wasn't long before I settled into my "Heavenly Bed".
