I've only lived in Destin for a short time; so everyday I learn something or have a new and sometimes unexpected experience. Not having lived near water for several years, I find I most enjoy the events that take place at the water's edge. Now, many of you who live in Florida have attended various boat parades held in your area each year. As for me…who knew? I've never heard of such a thing. But I'm here to tell you, this year on Sunday, December 4 at 5:30 pm, I will be making my way toward a standing (or sitting) space along the Destin Harbor just behind the Emerald Grande, because I want to make sure I have a wonderful vantage point to view the Holiday on the Harbor Destin Lighted Boat Parade.

Private, charter and commercial boats will be decorated in the spirit of the holidays and they will be judged by a panel of judges located upstairs at Harry T's Restaurant.

The parade can be viewed on the harbor west of the Grand Harbor Condominiums. The actual event will begin at 6pm, but there will be other festivities to attend along the harbor beginning in the afternoon.

Even though prizes will be awarded in seven different categories, I am planning to attend as a spectator and enjoy the many beautifully decorated boats in the presence of friends. Plus, there will be a fireworks display after the boat parade…and fireworks over the East Pass are always special. So, to the members of the community as well as all of you Destin visitors….I say, come on out to the Holiday on the Harbor Destin Lighted Boat Parade. Become inspired. Join in and share your holiday spirit with others during this joyous time of the year.

If you are new to the area also, or are simply visiting, the folks in Destin will make you feel welcome. There are not too many places I've found that are friendlier. So come on out…everyone is welcome. Hope to see you there!

Oh, and by the way... I understand that in case of bad weather, the event will be held on Sunday, December 11.
