Dog Daze in Destin!

Planning a vacation but hate leaving Fido behind? Well you may not have to if you are planning to visit Destin, FL. Already well known for its beautiful beaches, extraordinary restaurants and top notch accommodations Destin has a lot to offer visitors and now there’s even something for the furry family member!

Everyone, including pets, need a little rest and relaxation and Destin is the perfect place for a pet friendly vacation!

Along with many pet-friendly vacation rentals, Destin is also in the process of building their very first dog park. The park would be located at the intersection of Indian Bayou Trail and Commons Drive and would encompass about an acre and a half.

Destin resident Nancy Weidenhamer has been spear-heading the project to raise funds needed for the fence and landscaping work required for the park. The City of Destin has agreed to match fifty percent of the initial construction costs if all funds could be raised by September 1st. Resident dog owners are anxious to see the park become a reality, but some fundraising is still needed.

In an effort to help the park reach its funding goals several Destin area restaurants are teaming together for the "Dog Daze of Summer," which will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011. This event will include several local restaurants teaming together to generate funding for the park. Each participating restaurant and bar is donating a portion of the evening’s receipts to the Destin Dog Park. Cuvee Bistro is one of the restaurants that will be participating and Executive Chef/Dog Lover Tim Creehan couldn’t be happier to be involved.

"Since Valentina (Chef Tim’s beloved shih tzu) joined my family and now the Cuvee family, we have added a puppy friendly deck and this effort just ties it all together!" says Creehan, "Valentina invites all her puppy friends to enjoy Cuvee Bistro's deck."  

For all you dog lovers out there, be sure to visit participating restaurants such as Cuvee Bistro on August 25th and help support the effort to build the first Destin Dog Park!
