Key West Songwriters' Festival

Key West, FL -
Songwriters have been discovered, and it seems everybody wants to throw them a festival, but the ORIGINAL Songwriter’s Festival was created by the writers themselves, and it is still very much under their control. More than a week before the actual festival begins, songwriters are jamming in their favorite little island bars. George Strait is cutting a new song in Jimmy Buffet’s tiny studio down on the Seaport. Jimmy may be playing Jazz Fest in New Orleans this year, but he’s not missing out on the Songwriter’s Festival in Margaritaville!

Key West Songwriters' Festival
May 2-6, 2012
Where: Various Locations

Celebrating its 16th year, the Key West Songwriter's Festival is not just "one more" festival on this tiny but celebrated island; it's THE largest festival of its kind anywhere in the world! The critically acclaimed festival gives audiences a chance to hear some of the hottest songs in the country... some old and many more new, but ALL are performed with the kind of passion that only their writers could give them.

Hey! LOCATION is important but this festival is all about concerts, concerts and more concerts... even impromptu concerts can be heard all over the island at bars, restaurants and many waterfront locales not to mention some of the more historic and even "grandiose" concert halls in town. The writers enjoy coming to Key West... not only because it's... KEY WEST of course, but because of the appreciative crowds that come in great numbers to the festival from all over the world with only one thing in mind-MUSIC... great music! The writers come prepared to sing and play their hits, debut new songs and share the colorful stories behind each of their songs.

Key West has always been known for famous writers like Tennessee Williams and Ernest Hemingway, but the Key West songwriter has an equally fascinating place in Key West history and for many decades there have been good songwriters living here and visiting for an indeterminate length of time and it appears that other songwriters simply want to follow in their footsteps. So, music lovers and songwriters alike come to the festival and leave inspired, rejuvenated... and probably a little hung-over, too (that is IF they leave the island). No one would deny that the Key West Songwriter's Festival is a whirlwind immersion into a lush, tropical land of OZ populated with amazingly talented and hard-partying songwriters... and lots and lots of FANS! Why would anyone want to leave?

The best part of the whole gig is it's FREE... well, almost anyway. Some of the more popular events are ticketed and because of the small venues, it's first come-first serve, so pay attention once again to keywestsongwritersfestival.com for all the up to the minute musical information... and make sure you pack a little booze money (well, just in case) and clothing is definitely real casual because island living even in the springtime is plenty HOT! There are plenty of guesthouses around the island to fit your personality and budget, or if you want to go the hotel/resort way, there are plenty of those, too! In fact, there's something for everyone on this infamous island and you can be sure that the 16th Annual Songwriter's Festival will introduce you and thousands of other fans to the faces, voices and stories behind the songs of yesterday and today... and this diverse group of songwriters will deliver rare, "Key West-only" moments to last a lifetime!

Writers have traditionally found Key West to be an ideal place to write because of its laid-back atmosphere and many a hit has been written here or finished here and then taken to all points north where they're produced and ultimately heard on the radio or CD's around the world. Now, most every songwriter is coming to Key West and lucky fans will be able to listen to their favorite songwriter's on America's only Caribbean island, Key West. It's a recipe for success and a whole lotta FUN wrapped up in the 16th Annual Key West Songwriter's Festival. Now, keep an eye out on that calendar and make reservations.

Watch an interview with the festival's founder, Charlie Bauer.
