No Tropical Depression

Key West, FL -
August already on The Isle of Bones. Watch out walking through asphalt parking lots… you could fry out there. But, so far... not one chance for the news to start banging a drum and sending us to crowded grocery stores for peanut butter and batteries. I kind of miss it, really.

No Tropical Depression

My friends and I are doing what we do best... eating the most delicious food at Louie's Backyard, or tapas at Michaels, sipping a frothy cocktail and peeling a big fat shrimp at The Sunset Pier as we watch the sunset.

Hurricane warnings always chase everyone out of town except a few crazy locals, me included. Everything stops while we review our hurricane plan and drag out the shutters. Not this year. El Nino or La Nina, or whatever it is, has kept the storms away. I feel dangerous even typing this out… could I be jinxing us? Will I be sorry? I don't really think so. Stay away, Bill!

Lots of folks are here, and everyone seems to be having a marvelous time diving for lobster or taking an underwater tour of the Vandenburg. My friends and I are doing what we do best... eating the most delicious food at Louie's Backyard, or tapas at Michaels, sipping a frothy cocktail and peeling a big fat shrimp at The Sunset Pier as we watch the sunset.

Today, I was enjoying a cold beer and popcorn at a matinee. That is currently my most favorite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon. The Tropic Cinema in downtown Key West is the most adorable place and you can buy a beer! How much fun is that? The popcorn is fresh with REAL butter and you can put any number of spices on it. I like the brewers yeast and Spike mixture myself.

Today's offering was Julie/Julia, starring the irrepressible Meryl Streep. I laughed - I cried. I came out happy to be alive and married to a chef that uses lots of butter! I came out happy to be in Key West blinded by the late afternoon sun.

What will tomorrow bring? Mornings walk through Old Town? A swim and snorkel at Ft. Zach? Or, maybe just looking for that perfect piece of blue glass at Broken Glass beach? Maybe just another matinee - or maybe do nothing at all. Ahhh AHHHHHGUST in Key West.

What could be nicer? End of Article
