More than 10,000 motorcycles and riders from throughout the United States are expected to traverse the scenic Overseas Highway from mainland Florida to Key West, during the annual Key West Poker Run.
The event began in 1972 with 46 riders and has grown into a major fundraiser for South Florida charities. Phil Peterson of Harley-Davidson of Miami and the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic organize the ride, which splits proceeds between the Diabetes Research Institute and Sunrise Rotary's local charities and scholarships.
PrideFest is about the inherent openness and acceptance found in the internationally renowned gay and lesbian resort destination. That inclusiveness will be celebrated during the island city's PrideFest.
Residents and visitors can experience first-hand the wonders of many different kinds of tropical fruit trees and fruit. Come to the Fruit Fiesta to see and taste many kinds of fruit and learn how to grow them. Hundreds of top-quality fruit trees will be available for purchase, including some rare and unusual trees raised by hand.
Tennesee Williams and Ernest Hemingway aren't the only BIG names in literature who had a home in Key West... Robert Frost also had a winter cottage on the island and admirers of the Pulitzer Prize winning poet will gather in Key West to celebrate the man and discuss his poetry during the 14th Annual Robert Frost Poetry Festival.
The annual Seven Mile Bridge Run is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2008, and the rush is on for interested participants to send legal-size, self-addressed stamped envelopes to the Marathon Runners Club to receive their applications.
