The vibrant cultural connection between Key West and Cuba, which dates back more than 150 years, will be celebrated during the island city's Annual Cuban American Heritage Festival.
Commemorating the birth of a nation is generally a pretty staid affair, but not when the nation is the Conch Republic. Instead, the republic celebrates the anniversary of its founding with a "drag" race featuring female impersonators, an open-air bed race billed as "the most fun you can have in bed with your clothes on" and a packed roster of other events showcasing the Florida Keys' independent and eccentric spirit.
The critically acclaimed festival gives audiences a chance to hear some of the hottest songs in the country, performed with the passion that only their writers can give them. In more than a dozen concert offerings at bars, restaurants and waterfront locales, the writers will sing and play their hits, debut new music and share the stories behind their songs.

On May 16-18, 2008 Super Boat racing comes to the Florida Keys. With the roar of hundreds of horsepower flying by, there's plenty of room on shore to watch these speeding boats fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Designed with spectators in mind, the boats come within 50 yards of the shore. One of the summer event highlights, thousands of people invade Key West for this competition. Over 35 boats compete on Sunday in 10 classes at speeds up to 135 mph.
