Georgetown Harborwalk Festival
June 28, 2008
Where: Georgetown, SC

The festival was originally designed to help defray the cost of the downtown redevelopment. This included building the 12 foot wide Harborwalk along the shoreline of the Sampit River. Today the Harborwalk runs from the Rice Museum west to the Kaminski House Museum and provides access to restaurants, shops, and apartments that lie on the south side of Front Street.

After the redevelopment was completed the festival was scheduled to be discontinued, but the event director stepped in and offered to continue the event as a not for profit corporation.

Funded in part by the City of Georgetown, the event draws crowds and vendors from the local area and beyond. Needless to say, this fills all the hotel rooms in the county and many in Horry and Charleston counties as well.

Each year a local artist is commissioned to produce the poster to advertise the festival. Over the years, these posters have become collectors items. Many of the past years posters can be seen at the Thomas Cafe or at Prince George Frame Shop. End of Article
