How difficult will it be to taxi between an outlying hotel and the French Quarter?

It won't be that hard to find a taxi, but your ability to get downtown will depend on timing. Lots of streets close down 2 hrs before parades.

Can anyone tell me if Mr. Butler is still working in New Orleans? My wife formed a special bond with him during a visit there before the Hurricane and we have been trying unsuccessfully for some years now to find out if he was ok.
Thank you.
