If you're in the mood for something extreme, don't miss the most extreme event of all...the Iron Man Triathlon on Panama City Beach. Hundreds of the world's fittest people will be on the Beach to compete in this grueling endurance test. It starts with a nice 2.4 mile swim (which competitors have 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete), is followed by an incredible 112 mile- 8 hour bike route, and finishes with a full 26.2 mile marathon...7 full hours are allotted for this challenging run!

The four-hotel Boardwalk Beach Resort serves as the host location for this event, which is the first full distance qualifier for the following year's Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii. The swim takes place in the usually calm and cool waters of the Gulf of Mexico, with a classic beach start. The bike course, although mostly flat, is often windy, and contains enough rolling hills to give competitors a test without many opportunities for rests.

This is a truly International event with runners competing from over 30 countries.

Race Description:
The first-ever Ironman Florida Triathlon was held on November 6, 1999, as more than 1500 athletes converged on Panama City, Florida, to test their mettle. November is an off-time for northern tourists, so the entire town opens its doors and beautiful white-sand beaches to the athletes, families and fans. The four-hotel Boardwalk Beach Resort serves as the host location for this event, which is the first full distance qualifier for the following year's Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii.
