Halloween in Panama City Beach

  Tell a Friend

Panama City Beach, FL -
Halloween was originally a celebration for the end of the harvest season but the date, October 31, held a special meaning for the Celts long ago, and it wasn't a particularly happy occasion. On this otherwise ordinary day, the impenetrable border between the "real" world and the otherworld opened for the day and the dead were free to cross and cause mayhem for the living... at least for a single day that we now call Halloween. No wonder people have come to expect the macabre and SO MANY bone chilling activities on this one-of-a-kind holiday, but as civilization has become more civil... more civilized shall we say... Halloween has taken on an air of FUN... with just a touch of those "scare you to death" feelings that everyone... young and old alike seem to enjoy, especially on Panama City Beach where the nighttime surf is dark and full of... .well, who knows what?!

Halloween in Panama City Beach

Halloween is the ONE night of the year you can act as KRRRAZY as you really are...

Haunted Trail and Pumpkin Patch
But whether you're visiting these shores or a die-hard local (no pun intended) you're bound to enjoy what's become a real crowd favorite at the Science and Discovery Center of Northwest Florida. You simply follow all the spooks along the Haunted Trail and Pumpkin Patch and the rest is up to the spirits of Halloween. The trail opens up at dusk, just as all the ghosts, vampires and other creepy crawlers wake up for their annual party on the trail! They've been up to no good for 12 years now and this ultimate Halloween experience will happen this year on Friday and Saturday, October 21st and 22nd from 4:00PM until 10:00. This years trail promises all sorts of creepy and scary Halloween scenes that are only recommended for children 7 years old and up. Adults of course are invited at their own risk... .bwaaahahaha! The event also offers the traditional Pumpkin Patch, a carnival style hodgepodge of games and crafts and be sure to visit the Haunted Homestead that's just filled with spooky but not so scary fun and surprises, including everyone's favorite ooey gooey science demonstrations and experiments. The costume contest starts at 5PM each evening with categories that include individuals as well as Groups and Team costumes. Visit ScienceandDiscoveryCenter.org for ALL the scary information!

Jaycee's Haunted House
If you're brave enough, you might want to stop by the Annual Jaycee's Haunted House? Located at the Massalina Bayou Draw Bridge the house is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 7PM to 10:00 and all proceeds benefit the Girls and Boys Club and the PCMI School. They say the house is really haunted but you'll find out when you're there that's for sure. For more information, call 850-763-8282... and don't forget about designing your own personal scarecrow for the... what else... Scarecrow Festival on Saturday, October 29 in Oaks by the Bay Park! Scarecrows entered in the contest will be placed along Beck Avenue and other public places to be scored by a panel of judges and a popular vote. The winners in each category will be announced at the Scarecrow Festival on Saturday night and prizes awarded at the same time, along with a Halloween itinerary that includes games, storytelling, a trick or treat trail and much, much more. There are two ways to participate: design your own scarecrow and enter the contest (for free) and maybe, just maybe you'll win a fabulously scary prize? Or if you live in the St. Andrews area, please decorate your home and yard to give the community a fun and festive look for all the ghosts, guests and even "snowbirds" that arrive every year around this time. You'll find all the information you need at historicstandrews.com.

ZooBoo at Zoo World
If there's an animal, large or small, in your scariest fantasy, there's no better place to trick or treat than the ZOO. Naturally it's called ZooBoo and you can dress your kids up or down in the spookiest costumes and head to Zoo World for a fun-filled night of trick or treating with the animals from 5 to 8PM. This contest is for kids through age 15 only and the last admittance to the park is 7:30, so whatever you do... don't be late, it makes the monkeys MAD!

Halloween at Schooners
But you don't need a zoo to have a good time on Panama City Beach. If you're young... very young and still holding your Mother's hand, it's an early night of trick or treating right in your own neighborhood... a long standing Halloween tradition and even though far too many sweets are consumed, it's only ONE night... right? For some reason carrots and apples just don't hold the same appeal for any kid in costume... and that's just the way it is! Teenagers may bob for apples at someone's well-chaperoned home, but most adults in Panama City Beach will dress up to the rafters and make their way to Schooner's, the "Last Local Beach Club" for one of the biggest Halloween parties on the beach! Dressing up for this Halloween Bash might even improve your bank account if you're lucky enough to win some of the serious cash that's doled out to the most creative costumes that walk, run or hobble down the catwalk at Schooners. This wild and crazy party has become something of a Halloween tradition on the beach and everybody and his dog (or unicorn) turns up to see the scary transformations that take place every year for this one-of-a -kind party... and it gets scarier every year with bigger bats, more monstrous monsters, eerier ghosts, witches, coffins and tombstones just to name a few and it's all doused in a heaping helping of fog and creepy lighting that barely illuminates the BIG black spider and her many webs!

Halloween is the ONE night of the year you can act as KRRRAZY as you really are and this year's band at Schooners -- Phar Fletcher will adjust more than your "attitude" with their awesome display of modern rock/alternative music and a play list that's perfectly suited for this Halloween madness! Phar Fletcher has garnered many awards in their time together, won battles of bands and opened for some of the hottest National acts! Their songs are riding high on the airwaves... the band is Clear Channel Broadcasting's "Shooting Star" and they placed first in the Got Milk battle of the bands sponsored by MTV and Rolling Stone. What else is there to say about first class Halloween entertainment on the most PHUN party night of the year... October 28th and Saturday the 29th, too!

So, take heed adults, for when it comes to dressing up on Halloween and acting a fool, so to speak, Schooner's is THE place and DO be prepared for a fair bit o' competition for the $500 in cash prizes! You can get there by sailboat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope, take a sled and slide down the sandy slope... no one cares how you get there... just get there, ALL DRESSED UP, if you can. You won't be disappointed. Check it out you ghouls at schooners.com and share in all the wild and crazy memories of one killer party, right on the beach. Say BOOOOOOOya!
