Wroclaw Phiharmonic Plays Dvorak at Civic Center

The 100 piece Wroclaw (Poland) Philharmonic Orchestra will fill the stage at the Marina Civic center on Wed., Feb. 15th playing a program including Dvorak’s 7th Symphony and Dvorak’s cello concerto in D minor. The concert is the third program in the Panama City Music Association's series of five concerts in its 70th season.
The Orchestra’s Artistic Director since 2006 is Maestro Jacek Kaspszyk. Maestro Kaspszyk is the former Artistic and General Director of the Polish National Opera and has been a leading guest conductor with orchestras including the London Symphony, Philharmonic, Bayerische Rundfunk, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and many others.
Kaspszyk will conduct the Dvorak program joined by award winning cello soloist Maciej Mlodawski,
Established in 1954, the Wroclaw Philharmonic is widely embraced for its diverse repertoire, which spans various musical eras from Baroque to Contemporary. Called “first-rate” and “excellent” by Gramophone magazine, the Polish orchestra was awarded a Gold disc for its recording Symphonically Perfect.
Remaining concerts in the PCMA season include Puccini’s masterpiece, “Rigoletto,” on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012. “Rigoletto” is an intriguing study of the contrasts between good and evil. Destinies collide as the womanizing Duke of Mantua and his vengeful court jester Rigoletto, weave a fascinating drama of seduction, betrayal, curses and vendettas ending with the tragic death of an innocent young woman.
The series concludes on Sat., March 3, 2012 with a program of classical dance performed by The Moscow Festival Ballet Company’s “Swan Lake,” one of the most famous of ballets. This full-length ballet in four acts performed to the music of Tchaikowski had its premier March 4, 1877 at the Bolshoi Theater, Moscow.
