Cow Key Bridge Race - Local News
The Cow Key Channel Bridge Run is the only zero K race, ever! It's not for the faint of heart. It takes a special type of non-athletic person to be able to spend hours, days, weeks even months to not train for this zero K. The course is a shocking three hundred feet long over one of the shortest bridges in the Keys! Not everyone makes it across to the bar, close to finish line. Some poor folks have to turn back half way across, which if you think about it is the same distance if they completed the course, but that's not the point. The point is this. If you think you have what it takes to dress up in a silly costume or not, run – I mean walk, stroll, shuffle, whatever - three hundred feet across Cow Key Channel Bridge, and force yourself to drink a refreshing beer or cocktail near the finish line– well my friends, this zero K is for you! If the thought of walking such a distance is too much, then consider a relay team, whatever it takes. Participants are encouraged to do the Cow Key Triathlon which starts with a shower, then moves to a slow bike ride to the bridge, followed by the run. There are trophies for fastest and slowest. The event is free and bib numbers and t-shirts are available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds benefiting The Monroe County Sheriff's Animal Farm.
